Is the commander named for the highest ranking officer in the vicinity or the Naval Rank? The reason why I lean to the Naval rank is two-fold.
1. I think the Navy SEALs "took" this knife as there own or something
2. It is not "pointy". Perfect for being on a boat.

Whatta think?

I don't know about the military ranks, but I do know that the SARK was designed for the US Navy Rescue Teams.
The Commander would be a great match to it for the reasons you stated.

IIRC a slightly larger version of the commander called the TCM1 or something like that was developed for one of the SEAL teams and some were issued, it was designed for utility and SD use, and evolved into what is now the commander.

it was designed to be a slasher IIRC but still with some slashing ability, IIRC they dont use them on the inflatable boats they are issued something else for that, in fact IIRC the rhino was designed with the hope it would be an even better slasher and it was i suppose but IIRC there were more commanders issued than rhinos, the rhino is the same as a commander except the back of the blade is dished in and sharpened to facilitate throat slashing.

i dont have a clue as to why its called a commander but it could be after the navy officer, it would make sense to me.

It was called the ESM-1

The Rhino inspired me to do this mod to a BM 630, would have done it to a Commander but couldn't get hold of one at the time.
