So a long story short my cousin dropped this bolo/kukri off with me the other day to fix the tip. It is rather special as it was given to him by his brother many years ago. Both of them are army rangers and we lost his brother in Iraq. He moved onto being a Blackhawk pilot and was shot down. So this knife means alot to him and I'm planning on regrinding the tip. But it got me thinking about making a really nice commemorative kukri for our fallen hero and much loved and missed family and giving it to him. I'm coming to you looking for ideas as I have never done a kukri/bolo let alone somthing so special.

Thanks guys

Sorry for your loss. I really love doing projects like you are describing. One thing off the top of my head. If your cousin can get ahold of any of his brother's old (non dress) uniforms, you could make a laminate with it. I'm thinking like an old flight suit perhaps? You could also get a lapel pin of his unit's insignia and inlay it in the handle. His serial number/ rank/ name etched on the blade maybe as well.

Sorry for your loss, always tough to loose a family member.

Me, personally, I'm of two minds. One would be to re grind and re finish the blade and make a new handle. The other is to leave the knife as is and make a nice wood and glass display case. You can always buy another kukri, but none would have the history that this one has. I take it was carried in theater?

I think he's going to fix the one pictured and is possibly going to make a new one as well.

I applaud your effort and pray you can pull it off. Your heros deserve to be remembered and that is as great a was as ever.
