Comments and suggestions please

George,

The latest one you have done up is looking really beautiful. I don't have the trained eye the other guy's have, so I'm not going to even attempt to give a technical analysis. I also think that screen capture you did is pretty slick. What did you do to combine the measurements with the drawing and the steel?

Good Job George,

Jeff

I scanned the steel then used it as a background in my graphics software. The software allows me to scale things, being that I know the length of the steel I just set it to that size. Then I just drew over top of the background image. It is a feature of my software for tracing images. The measurements are built into the software as well. My software is an upper end 3D deal used in manufacturing and design so you need to have some sort of measuring ability with it. you can download a demo version of the software that gives you 25 saves, after that it is still functional but you cant save anything. I was introduced to the software with a demo copy, but all I did was never save anything till I was done working on it. That meant that I had to leave the computer and the program running for extended periods though. What I use is Rhino 3D, it is very similar to ACAD in use and terminology, and it's a nurbs program so you get smooth lines and the ability to tweak control points. My copy was a free gift from a friend, but I would like to buy a copy that I could register some day to get the updates and plugins. The company he works for switched software and he gave me the discs and manuals after he removed it from his computer

Dannng! Personally I like the arced clip, it helps the blade flow rather than look jagged.

If you want to make the 15n20 pop out more go with a slow and gentle etch in FeCl. Some people go with 15 seconds but personally when I etch my steel it take 20-30 minutes because I water down my acid so much to get a better effect. If you have any questions about etching or finishing, let me know.

Thanks I may take you up on the finishing help. I just realized that you are about 100 miles from my home town. I grew up right across the river from Waddington. Well not right across but it is where we would go to get beer on Sundays while water skiing

So I broke 1000 posts but the knife I planned on putting up isn't finished yet:( I haven't forgotten the tradition and will do a give away once its done. It will be open to everyone with a membership and I will pay shipping in continental North America. Shipping over seas would have to be covered by the winner, sorry but my pockets just aren't that deep right now. No its not the knife in this thread, it will be winners choice on the bushcraft knives in my projects thread.

My elbows are feeling OK today so I have manage to do a little work on this blade.
I got it profiled this morning, ground the bevel and sanded it out to 320, but not finished with the 320, in this afternoon. I had to jump the gun a little and etched it with a little vinegar to see how things where looking

scanned image and PS'd to bring the etch out more

Dimensions changed a bit while getting to this point, blade measured from middle of plunge line is 4.2" and handle is 4.8" from same point on the plunge line to the butt. The over all stayed the same at 9". I made the mods after I made my first template so that it would fit my hand better
