Comments: Handmade vs. Custom

I think we should buy the knives we like and that makers should make the kinds of knives they like to make. If that happens to be fantasy knives, then so be it.

No knife needs to be embellished in any way. It doesn't add a darn thing to the knife's fuctionallity. However, embellishment makes knives appealing to a far broader base of people. I think that people should not concern themselves with the kinds of knives that are being made. If you don't like certain knives, don't buy them.

Dang keith. Why did you have to inject sanity in this discussion!

"Custom" and "Handmade" are sorta inter-related.......

like sanity....and a old time free-fer-all.

Show Pony?, more like Handmade vs. Custom = beating a dead horse for the 100th time. ;)

Though very precise definitions can be found in Webster’s for both “handmade” and “custom” their meanings have become synonymous over the years in regard to knives.
Whether someone says “handmade knife” or “custom knife” or “handmade-custom knife” we ALL know exactly what they are speaking of.

When I started reading this, and I at first thought it was a thread I remember reading a LONG time ago and that someone had dredged it up.... but then I saw the date was yesterday! People need to let things go. ;)

Keith--- Well said, my good man!
Years back, I received a custom knife that was flawless but it was as dull as a marble. That really bugged me.
