My first real knife iv ever bought was a ka-bar and i decided i like the brand. Im looking for a folding knife to keep in my pocket and i would like it to be a Ka-Bar, of course im open to any other suggestions. But which would u guys buy and why?

First off, welcome man. We hope you stick around :).

I would go with the Dozier Folder. Its cheap, light and just the right size. Another great option would be the phat bob, although that is heavier and larger it has a nice hollow grind for slicing through things with ease :).

Good luck.

1. Fill us in on your preferences. Do you prefer bigger or smaller folders? Modern or traditional? What's your price point? Natural or manmade handle materials?

2. Then just buy a phat bob, because it's awesome :D

1) im not sure i want a middle sized? i dont want it too look like a toy and i dont want it to look like a lethal weapon. by modern and traditional do you mean locking mechanism? im not to familiar with them. i do like natural materials but manmade are probably more durable so i guess id go with them.

i just checked out the Phat bob and the dozier.

I like the phat bobs handle looks really nice, but the blade looks too coconut knife for me. the dozier looks more like something id like. the size is probably around 4inches closed is my guess which seems like a size id like. keep bringing on the suggestions

Traditional knives look something like this generally (think grandpa knives).

Modern knives generally have pocket clips and locking blades are designed to be opened with a single hand and look like this.

From he sound of it, the Dozier would be a great place to start. Its not huge to its not too scary, it is light and easy to carry and is cheap enough to not give you a heart attack if you lose it.

OMG Logan, where'd you get that picture??! I thought I was over my desire to get one of the Chestnut dog's head trads, but now IFOM. That looks really, really nice.

Cveezy, keep in mind that the Doziers come in a variety of blade shapes. My recomendation is a Dozier Hunter #4062. It's a great knife, many people here on BFC EDC them, and it's very inexpensive. Here's mine.

You know BRL, I would love to say that I did something amazing to get that photo. Sadly, I didn't, I just googled "kabar dogs head" and that was one of the first page results. Looked good so I included it here for everyones viewing pleasure :).

Sorry to cause you any financial distress .

I recommend the Phatbob. It is a slicing, cutting knife in its own class.

The AUS8 steel takes a keen edge, easy to sharpen, and carries like it isn't there.

Great knife, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the help guys, nice pictures btw i think ill look at the dozier series, i like the clip features defiantly and they are probably alot lighter then traditional and the cheapness only makes it better. ill start looking into it and let u guys know what happens.

A friend of mine got the zombie killer tanto folder (he's more of a wanna be knife guy) and it was surprisingly sharp out of the box, and the lockup was solid, no play. The downside was the crappy plastic scales

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Kabar Dozer folders, I have the large, and the small ones, and love 'em both. Extremely hard to beat for the money!

Folding Knives top 2 choices

so im stuck choosing between
The Fin Mojo 5cr15MO steel

VS
Dozier AUS 8A Stainless Steel

I like a serrated edge but iv heard alot of good things about the dozier, what do u guys think?

Between the two, in terms of quality I would go with the Dozier. The Fin looks pretty nice, but the steel is substantially lesser in quality than in the Dozier. Also, serrations can be useful for certain things, but many feel that the straight edges are just as useful as well as easier to maintain.

Personally, I would go with the Dozier.

That is just my opinion of course :D.

That long swedge on the Fin doesn't seem to provide much use, and reduces useful back-of-blade territory for a guiding finger and etc. That deep cutout on the handle doesn't seem ideal, either... seems like your fingers would clump up in there.

Go Dozier!

im not worried about maintaining the blade, i have the correct tools for sharpening serrations. As for steel quality thats definitely a big factor in my decisions.

as for the handle of the fin and blade swedge that makes alot of sense. i am now leaning towards the dozier, id like to see some feedback towards the fin too =D or maybe its just a one way fight lol, cause everyone likes the dozier ahha

Clich had a different Fin and he liked it. Never seen anyone actively posting here about the one you're considering. Maybe try the General forum?
