Good looking bowie. My first impression is that the guard is somewhat oversized though and for a fighting knife I wouldnt have gone with a round spacer between the stag and the guard. Awesome looking blade!

thanks for looking, tell me what you mean about oversize guard? (too long, too wide, too thick).
as for the round spacer i realy liked this piece of stag but it was too short so i had to use some type of spacer for the right length. What would you have done there?

Again thanks
Mike

Your work is breathtaking, And the blade work is supernatural. That's a great looking pattern in the damascus, I love the stag and the placement of the guard.

The butt looks nicely done. It is what I call a one-of-a-kind. I would say that the guard may be to large in diameter. Would like more pleasing to the eye if it was a little thinner. perhaps filework around the guard would enhance the finished product.

But other than that great job. It is one outstanding job. Thanks for posting it to see very pleasing to see. Hope to see more from you. God bless and have a great day in the shop. A-----------:jerkit:

I just think the guard is too long and too thick. The round spacer looks good with the stag but seems narrow against the big gaurd and wide blade. As a general rule; the guard and the ricasso should be the same size so the design can flow. Remember these are just my opinions, Im not saying there is anything wrong with your design. "A man can not tell another man what to do" (Dances with Wolves) :)

I've been studying this and agree with Sir Bump. The guard seems okay in size (maybe just slightly oversized, but not by much) if you block out the view of the spacers and stag. But the narrowness of the stag focuses your eyes on the guard right away.

However, I really, really, really like this bowie anyhow!

I also agree with BB and would like to add, that I would of made the pommel nut coming out of the center and not to the top of the pommel. You have a very nice looking blade, spacer and stag.:cool:

Thanks to all for your comments. I know everyone has there own opinion about the way things should look to them.
I too thought the guard may be a little too big, but then again it didn't look bad.
that is why I ask for your comments to try and further my knowlage, and beleave me I will keep all these in mind as I go foward.

George: how do I get the pommel nut in the center? (bend the tang?)

Thanks
Mike

Your grind is awesome, however, with a blade the width of the ricasso, your notch should be in the ricasso. I am not sure that the guard is too long, I think it is too thick. I see nothing wrong in the ferrule, bolster, spacer, but like Indian George, I think the pommel nut would look better centered. Overall, exceptionally nice, and you should be very proud of your work. It is a very beautiful knife.

Good additude to have. You will go far.

Im no IG but yes bend the tang until it lines up in the center of the pommel.

Thank God you are not Bruce.:eek:One of me is bad enough.HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!
I do the same as BB. How long of a piece of threaded stock do you have on the tang????

George: There is no threaded stock, I just treaded about 1" of the tang.
when I make the nut, I turn about a 3/4" shoulder that runs up into the handle.

This is how I do mine. Make the tang 2" to 3" long, dovetail the end and flatten and dovetail the thread rod then silver braze it together. Doing it this way you can bend the rod to come out the center.

I love the blade simply awesome, from the damascus to the design and the excellent grind work. Great job. Love the handle the spacer, stag, cap fit and finish. Yes maybe the nut should be centered. I even think the guard is great. I even think it fits that blade. Here is the thing. I don't think that handle goes well on that knife. I understand about wanting to lengthen the stag. I just think that width knife needs a more massive handle. If the handle was larger the guard would fit in the picture. I think it is all awesome work. I would love the handle on a slimmer blade. Say guard less, a long slim knife with no guard. Just start right from the brass, It would be stunning. I feel odd even saying anything. I wish I could make the quality of the pieces. It is a top of the line knife and my comments are just my opinion.

I really like it

I think everything about it is cool

you made it the way you made
it its set far apart from alot of bowies because of that and thats the best part imo
