Commisioned custom scrimshaw piece - just took delivery

A knife that makes it's owner happy is a fine knife.
Reminds me of my good old bird hunting days.

I must get back to it someday.

Damm fine shot in your video by the way.

If I got the double it would have been a fine shot ! (notice two birds got up)
But I will take the second barrel any day.

a Thai maker, Pisansak Kanittanond- nice guy
the work actually is not bad, smooth in the hand and nice fit overall.

I still think the blade is a straight copy of a gunhammer.

Ok, you have said this x2.

What is the point/beef beyond the fact that someone in Thailand copied some bold elements of a DR Gunhammer?

The knife put a smile on my face for the loving sentiment it was meant to convey. It wasn’t done for anyone else to appreciate. Hopefully it will spend as much time in the field as the hunting companions.

Thanks for sharing and congratulations on a fine hunting partner.

I must say I love the story but not the knife. If you are happy with it, however, it is the perfect knife for you. Enjoy it.

Hunting is forbiden in 90% of Brazil so I never had the chance to, though stories like yours inspire me a great deal. Maybe someday I can find the money to spend some time in the USA doing those things I would love to. Thanks for sharing man!

Steve and Kevin most assureadly ..... I am sure Kevin can shoot.
Steve how's your skill at drawing a bead on a moving object ?

I used to shoot skeet...best was a 19 with an 18 1/2" Mossberg 20g pump..so I would say, about average...but could use some work...if it was planned, I belong to a gun club with a skeet range, and have a Benelli M3 Super 90 that might suffice.

Blakesnowden,

I think it's a little unfortunate that you received some bad reviews on the scrimshaw. You are happy with the knife and that's what matters. Besides, I don't remember ever seeing it posted who did the scrimshaw. Maybe it was someone just starting out or hadn't done it very long, in which case I would say that it's a very good start.

As a scrimshander myself, the outcome of the scrim somewhat depends on the photo used to scrim by. The photo you provided doesn't show Ace very well. I would have asked for other photos. If none were available, I would have went online and looked at images of German wirehaired pointers (but then I would worry about making sure the dog I scrimmed look like Ace).

Congratulations on Ace! I know how proud you are of your dog! We have a Chesapeake Bay retriever (Tapio) that my husband took duck hunting for the first time in North Dakota in October (if I remember right) last year and he did really well (he was 9 months old at the time). Tapio is "freaky" smart. He learned things after being showed/taught once. But then he is very stubborn (known for Chesapeaks)!
