What are some of the most common handcuffs used here in the US? I might get a pair and practice with this handcuff key I've had for like two years from my RAT kit...I've carried it a few times, but like anything else, it's next to useless without practice.

I also got the small titanium blade that's going to come in the RAT wallet kit today in the mail, very nice peice of simple gear. So while I'm asking about handcuffs...what are some common ziptie restraints used?:D

S&W and Peerless are the two most popular brands of cuffs. They are very similar.

As for zipties, there are some great youtube vids on breaking zip ties.

If you find yourself in handcuffs you probably did something illegal so you should leave them on.....or you have found yourself in a situation with a woman taking advantage of you......and you should also leave them on!

At any rate the plastic zip ties are pretty common for hand restraints. If you want cuffs to go with your key you can look at any cop shop online and the key should fit. S&W are fairly cheap.

zipcuffs can be broken with the right technique, or paracord shoelaces. handcuff keys are pretty well universal, i keep one on my keyring.

too funny! i got pulled over once by a hottie police officer for my tinted windows. i keep thinking, "please, pull me out of the car and frisk me...please!". after everything checked out fine she just gave me a warning :o

I dunno guys, ive been in cuffs before, and even if i had a key on my person i wouldnt be able to get to it to free myself...and besides in a SHTF situation you will probably see more cable ties than handcuffs. IMO.

They are similar in how they work...not similar when it comes to picking them. :D

Or you have found yourself kidnapped, in your own home, the trunk of your vehicle...or kidnapped in another country, etc. That's why they're being sold by ESEE. Not to circumvent lawful arrest in this, or any country.

Ted Bundy was arrested once and he got nabbed for having a pair of cuffs, the keys didn't get him busted, the cuffs along with a stocking mask and an icepick did it. Murderers have used cuffs to restrain victims and will do so in the future. It was the way he operated, too, he sometimes impersonated a police officer.

S&W, S&W High Security (Not the older, 1970s version that looks like it has a tubular key but a newer model with a slightly modified key.), Peerless, Hiatts and ASP are probably the most common right now. You might also run across Crockett and Kelly, American Handcuff Co. or American Munitions, all of which are now defunct. Crockett and Kelly will rust if you look at them but they were very popular in PXs for years and with Military Police because of that. American Handcuff Co. which was earlier known as American Munitions, IIRC, were excellent handcuffs but they are now out of business, too.

That's true on both counts. That's why if you know you are in a bad situation to begin with, you split up the kit. That was the intent of the E&E Kit from the start, to split up the contents when necessary.

And you are right about the Flexicuffs as well. Pretty hard to carry around three dozen pairs of cuffs. :)

Exactly. Notice I didn't ask what are common "police handcuffs" or common "police zipties"...LE officers aren't the only ones who own and use handcuffs. Anyone can own and use cuffs.

Thanks for the info everyone, US cav has a 15% off thing coming up, so I might grab a pair of S&W cuffs from them.
