Compact .45

Congrats on getting it, now you need to practice. Holster it up and dry fire at the bad guys on TV.

Watch the front sight... when you pull where does it naturally go, above/below the back sights, left or right. line it up naturally. Start slow, repeat and repeat.

Practice mag changes. Safety off/on. and good luck.

Oh, and go to your gun store and find out where they have self defense pistol shoots and sign up for them. Let them know your new, they will welcome you and you will have a great time. Know that your not going to win, think, draw slow and aim. Speed will come. You will need mags for maybe 40 rounds at the highest stage, ask at the gun store. Welcome to the addiction.

Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone! I'm by no means new to firearms, but I am new to everyday concealed carry. I have been practicing with the Sig dry firing at many things in the house and on TV pretty much everyday since I bought it, but don't have the holster yet, so some practice with it is indeed in my near future. I've never gotten involved in any regular shooting classes or activities, but I think that's a great idea. Other than dry fire practice at home and the occasional range trip, I don't get much practice, so I'll certainly be looking into that :)

If you are now thinking about 380 or 9mm, check out Kahr's 380 and their PM9. Both are extraordinarily light and thin.

DancesWithKnives

Kahr makes a great pistol. They have some very nice compact .45's too. I'm not a big fan of the CW series. But the P and PM series are great pistols for me.

I've owned a large framed Sig Sauer P220 and a compact Sig Sauer P220 but ended up selling both and buying a Glock 30. It's a nice size for CCW, carries 10 rounds in the magazine, and very accurate if I do my part. I put on a set of night sights on it and it is one of my favorite guns to shoot. It is my BUG to my primary pistol which is a Glock 19 with SureFire weapon light, LaserMax laser sight, and night sights. Fun to shoot but not very fun for the baddie on the business end of either of my Glock pistols <grin>.

The Kahrs are nice guns. I edc a Kahr PM9 and would suggest that you look at that if you are considering a Sig P238. Same basic size but a bigger round!

Great triggers. Easy to pocket carry.

Check em out!

Took the Sig to the range Saturday. Went through 100 rd box of WWB Target (flat nosed) with 0 problems. Very fun to shoot! Been carrying it in pocket with the Desantis SuperFly since I got the holster on Saturday. Loving it!

Back to the original question: Star PD

It was the compact 45 of choice more than 3 decades before most of the others mentioned were even thought of.

I carry a Glock 23 ~~ then got a 357 Sig barrel from Bar Sto in Ca. and a Ceiner 22 Long Rifle Conversion out of Ga. and you have 3 guns in one. Shoot the 22 cal. all day long for practice and then the 40 & 357 Sig becomes a breeze. Never have had the first problem with the 23

Glock 36! It's single stack so it's pretty slim (as opposed to the double stack G30). Holds as many rounds as a revolver.
