I am looking for a replacement to a Remington Stockman that I recently lost and would like to stick to another carbon steel knife. Can anyone recomend a brand that uses CS? I have not decided on a pattern yet.

If you want, there are still old Remingtons to be found. Queen has made the old Remingtons. They still make fine carbon steel knives. I have heard good things about GEC as well.

God Bless

Queen made Winchesters.

Camillus made Remingtons.

On the lower end of the price scale, Bear and Son came out with a line of carbon steel knives. The most seen advice is to handle them and give them a good inspection before buying due to the quality control used by Bear.

Eye Brand carbon steel is excellent. You need to examine Eye Brand knives as they do have some fit and finish problems.

Unfortunatly which ever brand I buy will have to be over the net or through a catalog as there are no stores in my area that stock quality tradtional folders.

The early Carbon Steel Schrades are great knives and can still be had for a reasonable price and in a variety of patterns..

Current production Case knives are getting good reviews, especially the Chestnut bone CV series. The early Case knives are nice, but in general can't be had for what the current production knives cost

Dosen't Boker still have a carbon steel line-up?

Yes, they have a 4" stockman in different bone or even wood.

I like the old Cold Steel stockman made out of Carbon V by Camillus. Just the right size, not too big or too small.

I recommend the Schlieper Eye Brand. They are among the best carbon steel traditionals. The Bokers are also pretty consistent in terms of quality as are the Case CV blades. Of course, most traditionals made before the 1960's are carbon steel and have some history as well as great performance. Go find yourself a used knife in great condition on Ebay. Most likely you will like the way it works. My Cattaraugus and Schatt & Morgan jacks are among my favorites. Both of them are several decades old.

cold steel stockmans have been off market sometime however due to their plain appearance you shold be able to get one at a flea market or gun show.i tested them on cardboard when they hit market.impressive performance but ugly as heck.boker is an old standby but eye brands up19 97 or so beats them all.

Here is a link to all the carbon steel knives Case currently makes. Very solid, reliable working knives IMO.

I have been very satisfied with the upper in Moore Maker slipjoints, which, I believe are made by Queen. The blades are 1095.

I also am a fan of the D2 Queen slipjoints, as well as the Schatt & Morgan "file and wire" tested blades that I believe are 154CM.
