Hey guys want to show you a little of our new proto-type of the ESK(Every Day Survival Knife)
It is a perfect little companion knife and great stand alone for those short hikes.
It is 4mm thick, flat ground blade, SKS5 carbon Steel with micarta handles. It has a little secret. It is a full tang survival knife.
The handle is skeletonized w/ removable handle scale.
Check out these pictures and let me know what you think. Keep in mind this is a prototype that is in use. This is what I have put into mine:
1. Small Fire Steel
2. 1 Button Compass
3. 2 Small Hooks
4. 1 Needle wrapped in Sewing thread
5. Fishing line
6. 1 #10 Scalpel Blade
7. 1 Safety Pin
8. Cotton Packing to hold space

What do you think?

Pretty sweet. I love the secret compartment! You'd just have to make sure you had a p38 or something to take the scales off.

very cool.... i like that mini-psk set up in the handle.... that looks like a handy little blade... perfect size...

will this little knife be available by itself.... i want one....:D

Aaron, thanks for the PM. You did a superb job designing this knife. Lots of thought into the purpose and subsequent construction. I like the blade shape - looks very useful for woodsman's tasks. Definitely looks like a good everyday carry, yet looks like you could punish it and it would hold up well!

I really like that little knife, may have to check one out when available. Is there somewhere on the sheath to mount a tool for removing the scales? How long is the blade? Great design.

Any chance of doing one with a convex grind? I know Brian has become a real fan of the convex edge.;)

 I like the idea, but, if possible I would use screws with a wide enough slot to be unscrewed using a coin.

Yes we are probably going to put a Hex head and tool. I am not sure I figured a flat head would be more readily available like dime or key piece of metal if necessary to open.
We are in production but I can change fixtures. What do you guys think would be best type of fixture setup? What would be the ideal configuration?

Flat head would probably be easiest to unscrew with a variety of things in case the tool was lost. A flat tip could even be added into the tip of the sheath or something. I like the design though, looks simple and stout.

I like this design. I agree and flat tip built into the sheath would be great. I would like a convex edge on this for sure. Maybe bring the edge closer to the blade.

I can't change the grind on this run but can look at another version. I have a hollow grind prototype. Decided on Flat grind because of durability and functionality and strength. The Convex is good and will consider for ESK II.

I think I would go with a Hex head, I think the rest of the knifes design is just right as it is !!!

A Flat Head and a suitable coin with a hole in it on a lanyard cuol be a good solution

Would that make it an EDC ESK for a VIP. Perhaps even SOP for the SOCOM. So get on your ETA and make it ASAP or be an SOB that is SOL.
LOL...
