Compare fatwood to white birch bark

Comparing out here on the American west coast, white birch bark is only available in a suburban yard, but fatwood is available anywhere there are conifers!

White birch is not native to the western USA - so for me, it's pretty much a non-issue. Fatwood is the only one of these two that's available.

Some of the shavings in the little pile burned, but some were left unburned. What did burn burned somewhat meekly; nothing noticeably different from regular wood shavings.

Based on this I would say the fatwood is not high quality. High quality fatwood should burn very well once lit.
