only one is good enough to open it easy. benchmade, what is your problem? anyway, why all their tips are BURNED?! is it that the employees are blind? too hard to wipe it off from surface?

It is common that production knives vary slightly from model to model.

I've openly criticized Benchmade's QC plenty, but every quality OTF I've had was difficult to open when new. I'd be concerned that the one that was easy to open was bought, fired a lot and then returned.

OTF knives have a break in period and the user needs to develop their muscles. Just the nature of the beast. If you want an OTF that is easy to open and close the only one I have had that was super easy no matter which one I picked up was the Hogue otf or piranha Excalibur.

Double action OTF's mean that when you are pushing the button forward you are compressing the spring that will retract it. Vice versa on retraction. The amount of force necessary to push the blade FULLY from open or close has to be put into compressing the spring. The heavier the blade, the more spring pressure.

There's video of how they operate on youtube, give it a search. Suffice it to say that if they were 12" blades firing front to back the thumb pressure might be so high it would take two hands.

Carried my Lightning today, doesn't feel like it's loosened up from day one. Same firm stroke needed front or back.

well, ok, but you SURE CAN'T open some otf piece of shitotech ultracrap that much that it would be any, repeat, ANY close to turmoil easy of opening. not to mention that blade sometimes stopes by itself in the middle of its way to opened position. it is VERY hard to open, and is impossible if the hand is in sweat or in blood or if you are starving or had no sleep, in other words, it is not a knife for use at all. regarding opening of the turmoil i would just say that ease of opening differs from easy (had 2pcs) to nice (had one like that)

Wait.......never mind. I just remembered some of this OP's other threads.

When you push the slider forward on a D/A OTF, you are stretching the spring. As it stretches, the carrier overcomes the locking tab and propels the blade forward. The resistance from the button comes from stretching the spring, NOT from compressing it.
