Comparison of real large Sebenza 21 vs. new version of fake(with many pics)

But I am willing to bet he has seen some change in the amount of revenue he is collecting.
Maybe, maybe not; but I doubt it. I'm not debating that fakes don't have an impact, because they most certainly do and I personally don’t support them. However, I believe that the consumer is the most impacted, vice the manufacturer; because in the end, we're the ones to absorb the cost, whether the price increase is justified or not, it's passed down to us. Not just CRK fakes, but all product fakes.

I hear that people buy a fake for every warranty Chris Reeve denies under the pretense "you must've flicked it"
What's this? One of the reasons I bought a Sebenza was because I read of his impeccable customer service, as a matter of fact I just read the thread where he said "I pride my shop on giving the same excellent customer service that I expect to receive", or something real close to that. I don't flick mine because I don't have to (and I don't want to put any unnecessary warranty on it, I treat my Sebbie better than I treat my own body :)), but even if I did, I would think it would be able to handle it just fine... flicking it voids the warranty?!?!?! Even for my $20 flipper Kershaw's flicking doesn't void the warranty!

Hey guys how about taking your political & philosophical debate to the proper forum for it. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/702-Current-Events
Ya, ur right, way off topic, I'm done. As a matter of fact, to make the SN ration on this thread, is there a way to move all of the non-pertinant discussion, or should I just delete all of my replies? All I wanted to do was post help for others who may have struggled with purchasing used like I did, got a little caught up in the moment, I type faster than I think :).

I dug that you went ahead and bought a fake for the purpose of education between legit and rip off CRK's.

I don't dig that these people made some scrilla off of this purchase.

So in short, good on you/shame on you:thumbup:/:grumpy:

Leonard, good to see your ever needed input again my man, I've missed it dearly:thumbup:

There was a show on TV a while back that had US Customs and Border Protection hidden camera video of them setting up a sting on a Chinese guy who was selling MILLIONS worth of counterfeit drugs all over the world.
WOAH, now THAT sucks. While in Mexico and a few other places in South America, Canada, etc. I did see that the ratio of prescription to OTC is quite different, but from my perspective in a good way, I think that the US is WAY to restrictive on what must be purchased via prescription. One example, low level antibiotics. I have heard the argument that antibiotics should be controlled because overuse causes the acceleration of bacteria producing antibiotic resistant strains. I would believe that if antibiotics were indeed controlled, but scripts for them are given out like candy, both in patient and out patient (I have been in healthcare for the last 10 years so know a bit about this). So IMO that reason is a load of crap, rather it is to ensure that all of the "components" of US healthcare can get their cut for darn near everything sold(insurance companies, claim processing companies, physicians, subrogation companies, and on and on). To give another example, prescriptions being required for glasses/contacts. I mean come on, if my prescription hasn't changed, which takes two seconds nowadays to validate with the machines they have available, I shouldn't have to have a complete eye examination, etc., etc. to get a prescription to buy a new pair of glasses because my old ones broke and it has been >12 months since my last exam. The company I have worked for, 10 years now, has one mission(same one since they started in 1979), to transform healthcare, and make it possible to remove all of the middle men that have driven up the cost of healthcare to the degree that it has been in the US (one of the other drivers is malpractice suits and crazy cost of malpractice insurance, where our solutions and processes help hospitals to prevent human error, which over time will allow for malpractice insurance carriers to give discounts to those that use tools to prevent death due to human error, just like the discount on your homeowners insurance if you have monitored security and fire systems in your home). If you knew how much money 3rd parties make from healthcare that add no value (rather actually introduce more friction), it would make you sick, believe me.

What I never considered though was that the drugs were counterfeit. THAT is scary, and I would hope that ANY government, whether they choose to respect copyright, patent, and trademark law or not would at least control that aspect of the market to protect their populace from the truly unscrupulous.

If these were the best fakes the Chinese could do it wouldnt be so bad. I've seen much better fakes that would be difficult to discern unless you are a CRK enthusiast. Pretty scary if you ask me and one of the reasons I only buy new or used ones from reputable members on the exchange.

As a side note...that lighter color can be attributed to bead blasting the scales. I bead blast most of my CRK folders and they go from the color of your real Sebenza to the color of your fake Sebenza. The difference comes from the choice of the blasting media as well as the pressure used to spray it.
Just out of curiosity, why do you bead blast them? Is there a functional purpose in preparation for some other treatment, or just in and of itself, or? I really love the luster of the titanium, both the darker color and the "sparklies" for lack of a better term, of course everyone is different on what they like, so I was curious if it was an aesthetic thing or there was more to why you do that.

Here is a large Sebenza 21 (2012 make, SV35N standard Ti slabs) from an eBay auction, I am posting this because the auction only has one pic and comes with no paperwork or box of any sort, just the knife and the cloth, which for a 2012 year Sebenza I find extremely odd, who pays for a $00+ Sebenza and doesn't keep at least the cert of authenticity?? Or EVERYTHING that came with the knife (box, hex wrench, reg card, instructions, etc. I cannot afford to buy another one so am not considering it, but I am posting the pic because this is an example of the things I saw that gave me red flags when I was looking for a Sebenza I could afford. For the Sebenza experts that mentioned the one I posted was a lame copy copmpared to what they have seen, how about this one? From what I know, it looks real to me, but I don't know much. Based on the one pic, is this one a real or a fake? If fake, can someone post what in the pic with tipped you off that it is a fake?

I have not posted a link to the actual auction, rather just the one picture that is posted with it so as not to risk ANOTHER infraction to add to the one that I got for replying to another thread where someone said they were looking for a CF Sebenza and I said I had one (30 pts out of 50 that don't expire for 3 years, one more 20 pt or more infraction and I am banned for 3 years, makes me feel like on thin ice and unwelcome, given I was insulted in the message saying I had no common sense with what I did along with the infraction, and there was no warning in advance or anything (where the rules say that a warning "shot" can be given before an actual infraction at mods discression, kind of like a shot across the bow, apparently I wasn't worthy of that :(), and i didn't even sell anything, was just saying I had one I would consider selling and to email me :(). Anyway... back to the pic:

Real or fake?

On a side note, I haven't done so with this seller, but when I saw similar auctions with one pic (in most cases the pics were much worse than this, i.e. smaller resolution, blurry, etc. when I would ask for better pics I would get responses saying their camera was broken, the person that lent them the camera was out of town, and similar nonsense, so for those i just moved on, it wasn't worth the risk.

My guess based on this relatively decent pic is that it is real... I don't see anything that makes me think otherwise, but then there are apparently copies out there much better than the one I started the thread with.

On a side note, I have seen the exact same version of the fake I posted pop up in several places, including eBay. For the 2 I have seen on eBay I msged eBay telling them it was a fake and how I knew, and they disappeared pretty quickly(2 hrs or less), so have to give eBay credit for acting fast when it comes to ensuring their site is not an avenue for unscrupulous people screwing over people by selling fakes represented as real. I have also done the same with the place I bought this one from (as well as emailing Sebenza about it), it is still there a week+ later, he only change is that the price went up $10. There is also now another website selling the fake I posted... so apparently the one I found is proliferating...

Do you happen to have pics or links to pics that show them? I am looking for another Sebbie or two, and I don't want to get f'ed . I cannot go new as I am looking for out of production models(SV30 Sebbie, a couple of limiteds, Classic, etc.), and with the exchange depending on where they got it, it may be a fake and THEY don't know it.

Just to clarify, filled screw heads are older style not indicative of fake, also no "Idaho Made", same, many don't have that, as it was added fairly recently.

SHOOT, SHOOT, SHOOT, I skipped an excellent BNIB with certs S30V model on eBay cos it had filled screw heads, and no Idaho made either. I figured certs are alot easier to forge than the actual knife so they don't mean much. F' me running, it was $275 BIN for a large std Sebbie, if it had NOT been for the fact it looked almost exactly like mine (except for the clip, which you can order a replacement of), I would have jumped on that. Is there a resource anywhere that has like a timeline with pics of different models with changes and pics, etc.? If not, maybe we can put one together and stickie it? It would be fun for those that have lovely Sebbie collections and probably already have pics. DOens't need to be all of he limiteds of course (but that would be coool if people wanted to show them off, that would be a lot of excellent blade porn :), I cruise this forum just to see others' limited blades), at least the main production folders over the last 15 yrs or whatever makes sense.

Didn't want to read this whole post but I need some assistance. I am considering trading a handgun for a small sebenza 21 insigno. It's a 2 hour drive to someone I don't know. I asked for pics and he sent me some low quality side view pics of it and a pic of the birth certificate. I origionally asked for pics of the lockup and centering but l maybe he doesn't know what that is. He says it's new or like new in box. I also asked for a pic of the box and cloth along with the knife and that's when he sent the one of the knife with certificate. So my questions are do all sebenzas come with the white box with crk sticker and the cloth? Should I insist on seeing those before I make the journey? I don't want to insult him or make him think I don't trust him if it's real and lose the deal. Is there any tell tale signs of a fake? How much do these things sell for used but in new condition? He was asking $300 for it. Thanks in advance.
