Comparison Photos - Round Three - 25 Different Models

Awesome additions! Really wishing I had some of those.

The comparison of the two BCs is very helpful as well, showing the difference from knife to knife in the same model.

Thanks for taking the time and posting them. it's really helpful.

I can't always get mine to stand up on their own either. That's what the dime is for under the Woodchuck. :)

It's been a little over a year since I did the comparison pics on the mat...

Nathan, it is great to see you back to doing what you do so well. I love comparison threads! Your earlier comparison threads were a big help to me in my purchasing decisions when I was just getting started with Fiddlebacks. They still influence me to this day.

I hope you don't mind me jumping in, but I have made similar shots and I count 6 models added to the list for a total of 31 represented in this thread. I have included some of the same models for reference. I'm also not as good as Thurin at getting the knife to stand up on its own for the even spacing on the grid. These were quick and dirty shots, but if you want closeups of anything let me know and I will try to get better photos.

Also, I though this might be interesting to show the variation between the same model. I have over 50 BCs now and I picked two that have a the same blade thickness and almost the same taper. The scale thickness and contour are very different. I think variation is why many of us like custom knives to begin with. The same model can "feel" very different and these pictures show why.

Phillip, I am glad that you jumped in with some awesome photos of other models. These shots fit in very well with the theme. I have been at this for a while here and I still have trouble judging scale on some models without a frame of reference to another model that I have.

Since you are taking requests for additional photos, I think that you are overdue posting a "pool table" shot of the whole collection.

I appreciate the work you both did to put these grouping photos together. This thread will remain an important part of the reference material here. The only problem for me is looking at the photos too long brings on a bad case of covetousness for some of the exceptional pieces that you guys have... :)

Phil

Dang it!!! Well now I have to have a Minnow. So do you have any Minnows setting around over there thats trying to brake away from the school? :eagerness: Thank Phillip

Thank you sir for posting this . It has a been a big help to me as a new Fiddleback buyer. I liked the scripture you posted as well.

CPM154 is some nice steel but I like O-1 for a bush knife. Just get yourself some Tsubaki Oil and Flitz Polish; your Fiddleback will continue to look as good as the day it was made.

Thank for the tip ill keep that in mind. The only thing with that is I live an work on the water all day and I use Runt or Hiking Buddy to eat breakfast and lunch with every day.. Right now I tend to use Pam.

One point that I want to make is that different knives of the same model can have VERY different handle thickness. The pics below are of my two Recluses.

As the pics show, the Corrugata Burl handle is significantly thicker. What the pics don’t show is that it feels very different than the Canarywood knife. I have another Bear Paw that is at Heber’s house being fitted for pants and is not pictured. Similar to my two Recluses, the two Bear Paws have very different handle geometries.

Just to be clear, I don’t think this is a bad thing. I find the ergonomics on all of Andy’s knives to be awesome. However, when I find a perfect fit (like with my Corrugata Burl Recluse or Nessmuck) it is amazing and better than anything else that I have found on the market.

Tekton, Scotcha, and ncrockclimb: thanks for the great comparison shots. Like hasco said, not only are they helpful but they're fun to look at.
