Hello to all:
I am looking to purchase one (just one, really
smile.gif
Khukuri. And after shopping and
reading feel that the WWII model would be
the best choice. There seems to be three
good candidates;

GurkhaHouse WWII L:16.5 Rosewood WT:24oz $79
ColdSteel(fact.2nd)L:17 D:5/16 WT:22oz $170
Himalayan Imp. WWII L:16.5 WT:24oz $125

I would be very interested in the opinions
of the members of this forum as to which one to buy.Price is not THE decisive factor here. Blade balance is highly valued though.
I've previously owned a ColdSteel ATC, years ago when they first came out, before they redesigned the blade. It was a good chopper. This time looking for a slightly more combat oriented flavour. Thanks.

Hello, Bill. The first one seems like the most difficult choice for most folks (it was for me). Yes, conventional wisdom points to the WW2, and this is so if you're only going to have one. I have one in rosewood and one in horn. They're both super and so consistent that swapping scabbards is no problem.

Thanks for the saying that one of your primary needs is for varmints. That being so, I'd ask you to take speed into consideration. A 15" Sirupati or SN1 works here. But it's been said that the CHEETLANG almost whispers "weapon". And Berk calls it "the great one".

I'm no real expert, and there are, say, only a dozen or so khukuris in the house (don't wanna know), but I couldn't agree more. The handle is the most comfortable and has better lateral movement (due to butt shape), and the blade is the incredibly nimble. Berk also says that he keeps it handy (and he collects lots) in case of a bug-out. Besides that, it's just plain gorgeous to behold, and absolutely everyone (knowledgeable or not) picks it out of the bunch as the favorite every time.

You can't go wrong with either GH or HI. To me it's taste, like Ford and Chevy, Fender or Gibson, Winchester or Remington, Hornady and Nosler. There are similar models in both lines. As for the Gurkhas, the actual khukuri issued to them is the GH SN1...and once I got mine I knew why.

Your first likely won't be your last, and these khukuris from Nepal are all good. Hope you're tickled with your choice....Dan

Warrior: Yes, I do think also that the WWII is the most "versatile" if you're only going to own 1 (yeah, right! - ask LT Dan how many he owns!).

And either mine or HI are just as good. If you want to see how ours are made, get Gurkha Steel also. You won't regret it. In fact, I recommend you get the video before you get the khukuri.

Hello Bill. I recommend the Jungle SN1 that you can see on Craigs GH web site. The "jungle fighter" is a great practical khukuri that is shipped to you ready for war. I waited a long time for craig to get the first shipment in and I know now it was worth the wait. Cheers !

What about the opinion on the Cold Steel?

The above is pretty much the best of advice.
Also consider the size of your hands. If your hands are medium (like mine) to large, then I would go for something bigger than the SN1. The SN1 is a good allrounder by all means, but it tends to dig into my palm. This in spite of my medium to small hands. The WWII would therefore be a superb choice, since its grip is a bit longer.

Craig, would it be possible to have an Afghan in rosewood?
