Hey there porkers!

Does anybody have a SARSquatch and a Basic 8 that you could post some comparison shots of?

The Basic 8 looks like an awesome tool... But I'm curious as to how similar they are. If you do have both, thoughts on which you like better and why would be appreciated!

My beloved Squatchie!

Thanks!

.

I have a Squatch and a B7, B9, and B10, but no 8 for you if any of those would help.

I know Squatchies sightings are rare... So this may be a while.

Tyrade... A shot of the Squatchie between the B7 and B9 would be a great start... Spine thickness shots would be a plus too! Thanks!!

One of the things I love about the Squatchie, is that she's .170" thin...

How thick are the B8s?

Both of these blades are phenomenal. I don't have a 'squatch any longer, but it is one I still hunger for.

The B8LE is between 0.22"-0.23" and the CG is a bit thinner, around 0.20". I'm pretty sure that weight between these two models is nearly identical as any weight lost with the thinner steel is gained back in the weight of the coating.

Big advantages of the B8 for me is the lack of swedge and distribution of weight toward the blade. IMO, the B8LE is Busse's best one-knife-does-all offering. It chops well and it has a largely non-existent shoulder so it is very slicey. The blade is pretty strong at the tip for prying and the minimal drop point gives a great surface for batoning.

If you're on the fence about getting this knife, I'd highly recommend you give one a try. If you're contemplating trading your Sarsquatch for the B8LE...that would be a tough choice.

Thanks Joules!

I don't think I could ever let the SARSquatch go... so if I get a B8, it would be in addition to.

I've often thought of sending the Squatchie in to have the swedge ground down to a clip point... But it's never really been an issue for me. If it were a sharpened swedge, it be gone by now.

The swedge really does look phenomenal on that knife; I wish I liked them in use. That said, I hope to make a call to the custom shop at some point in the near future to see if they would make a custom swedgeless squatch. That is a dream knife of mine.

I'm looking forward to Tyrade's pics and also others. There is definitely not enough knife porn for these two blades. :D

The weight of the blade from what I hear is what makes it such a killer chopper. I'd hold off on grinding that beauty.

Not sure you'll have much success with that... IIRC, when I called the shop a few years ago, they had no Squatch blanks left... Hopefully, that has changed! .

I really like her balance and capability as she is now... That's why I haven't given her a clip. The SARSquatch is my favorite in its size group... Even over the NMSFNO, which is another real beauty!

Yep. That's my expectation as well. That being the case, I'll just have to get a standard model and love it the way it is. :)

according to my scales: 'Squatch = 1 lb. 4 oz. Basic-8 =ca. 13 oz. a pretty noticeable difference in hand actually...the Squatch seems more dense & solid, the B-8 more nimble...different is good!:)

The ergonomics are remarkably very similar feeling to me, the biggest contrast being between the feel of the Respirene-C compared to the Mic. The B8 seems to "hug" your hand more due to the more curvy pommel area. Once again, not better...just different!

Handle palm swells fall in almost identical location, Squatch has a top-humped profile making it feel a little fuller in your palm, B-8 is a bit more svelte...

I also did not realize the similarities in the blade profiles of the 2...very similar except the B-8 is a bit longer & therefore seems slimmer, may actually be slimmer if so, not a whole bunch...

The Squatch swedge besides looking cool , the grind effectively drops the point and makes it a bit more pointy than the B-8...

Edge treatments, almost identical full convex grinds on my 2 specimens, the Squatch starting a little more flat spineward...

I agree with Timmy, keep your Squatch factory stock condition...or trade it to me ;)....yes seriously, trade me please! :D

I will own both of these models forever & I'd advise you to do such also!

terrible pics incoming in: 3.......2.......1 :o

Even a full convex zero edge satin NMSFNO? That's saying a bit.

Looks like I got beaten to it while out walking the dog :)

Here's my pics anyway.

Awesome... From what I can tell on my phone anyway. This deserves a bigger screen for close inspection. :D

Big thanks to P2.1 & Tyrade for all the pics!

P2.1... Would it be possible to give us a shot showing where the balance point is on both these?

First thing I notice is the Squatch has a longer handle allowing you to grip further back for chopping. What's odd... Based on Tyrade's pics... The B7 looks the same length as the Squatch .

Can't wait to get back to a bigger screen!

Ask & ye shall receive...

The Squatch was near impossible (for me :o) to film the balance point because it was centered almost exactly where the forward part of the handle ends almost at the dead center of the talon hole, so it kept falling off my screwdriver/vise and also my index finger...

The B-8 was easy because of the flat around the plunge ...

Also, Foo:

the Sarsquatch grip is longer and your observations about it bear out "in field"...

also noteworthy the Squatch's squarish pommel would obviously be better for light duty hammering or getting hammered on
