Compass recommendations?

Have you guys ever tested one compass against another t check accuracy? Found any evidence of problems, or a compass that has gone bad?

Yup, when I was an undergrad, one of the guys in one of my courses stored his compass and his magnet together in the same case. Completely killed a Silva Ranger in just a day or two.

When I was kid I had an old non liquid-filled compass that went through the wash. Killed it.

I have a digital compass on my watch that I often check. It goes off frequently and needs to be recalibrated before any trip.

I travel internationally quite a bit and have found Suunto's "Navigator MC-2 compass with Suunto's patented global needle" quite handy. Just my expirience.

Suunto Leader M-3G also comes with the Global needle.

Suunto's GPS Plotter Compass is another.

They're all good, it's really a question of what you want/need.

Hmmm. I don't have any Suunto baseplate compasses.

I'm sensing a little "me to me" Christmas cheer coming on . . .

Then there's the Brunton 54LU which is a sighting compass without the mirror. If it had a 1:24,000 scale I'd be all over it.
