I use a toppo map and army compass, you can print out in grid format for free any area in the us from http://www.usgs.gov you can print the Us army land nav manual as well. I had to refresh my memories of land nav to help out my daughter for Rotc training. They still do day and night land nav by compass its a good skill to have. She was able to find all over her way points both day and night multiple times and areas. I like the cammenga with tritium markers add a protractor and your good to go. It does take practice.
