I started on my first blade back in early March, and unfortunately a family emergency happened and school got in the way, so my building process got pushed back. I finally had time to finish it last week because school let out. It is a full convex 3 7/8 inch blade, 1095 steel. I did almost all of the work by hand, the micarta is homemade. I am happy with how it came out, but it isn't near as good as I wanted it to be. There are obvious imperfections, the plunge lines are not good or crisp at all, and the micarta didn't turn out too well either ( I think it was too hot outside for it to set up properly). I will be starting on number two tomorrow. Let me know what you guys think about this one.
I will add more photos tomorrow and update with photos of it in use. I am curious as to how well my heat treat is.

I think it's a very admirable first effort. Those more qualified can lend more in terms of what might be improved. I really like that you made the scale material. The one pic alone does make it slightly difficult to see in full detail, but I like what I see very much.

Congrats and keep going!

Well done. That you already know the things you want to improve tells me you need no advice at this point. Keep at it and let us watch as you grow. You show good promise.

Great first knife. Time to make another focusing on what you learned from this one. You made a functional design, not a Klingon ceremonial knife or a prison shank.

I did some testing today, just some whittling and light batoning. The knife whittled seasoned and green wood with no trouble, batoning was no problem either. I also tested it out in the kitchen and it cut through an apple with no trouble whatsoever. It has already developed a light patina. I have already started on my second knife today, a friction folder. I love knife making, it is going to become an addiction real quick.

Here is a sneak preview of the friction folder. I call it the peanut.
