Competition Bowie

I don't think that I have ever seen a hamon on a cutting competition knife before.
Tom Ferry gave me his cutting competition knife a few years ago. The steel is 1084 and it has a nice hamon. I'll try to get a picture of it today.

At the same cutting competition Nick Wheeler had a damascus knife with over 1,000 layers. It cut like a light saber.

I don't see the flaw in the Bowie. You must be one of those knifemakers who work on their knives under a microscope. ;)

GAVE?

Nick does like to grind em thin. I can't wait to cut some stuff with my new Wheeler camp bowie! :)

I didn't see anything in that blade that would make me reject it either, so don't feel bad.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Chuck I'd love to see a pic of Ferry's competition knife. I suppose I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of Wheeler's too, I'm sure I'll have to press myself to look at it though :).

No microscope here, I'm just anal :).

Jessica hard a very hard time photographing the knife. First, The steel has started to darken and has a few dark spots. I have not taken it out of the cabinet in a few years and oxidation is starting. Second, it would not fit in the photo box. Third, the the cutting edge below the hamon is almost mirror polished. She had a hard time with reflections.

Now with all of Jessica's disclaimers out of the way, here is the knife. Convex ground 1084 with curly teak for the handle:

When I put the knife away it was scary sharp. It is now just sharp over much of the edge. Time has taken its toll.
(I know how the knife feels.) :(

Awesome knife Chuck, great hamon too.

Here's a link to some photos of the competition Greg Covington's son took we all had a GREAT time! Photos.
