Competition for Duluth pack?

I'm getting a strong infomercial vibe from this thread. All the same, that gear is amazing.

You could wax your denim jeans, they should be made from cotton as well :D, I don't think you would want duck canvas garments.

I just showed one of my daughters my 44 year old Blacks duck canvas Anorak that I used to hike in in the British hills
It is windproof, and very rain resistant
ten tons when wet, but still windproof, worn with a thick woolen sweater underneath
An amazing piece of clothing

I used canvas packs, tens, and clothing because that is only what there was
Wonderful to be nostalgic but....

They are heavy
terribly terribly heavy when wet
they tear relative easily
And they mildew
And rot if slightly damp when stored

You do have a point. Gagets and Gear is something i didn't even think about when i posted. I figured, that if anyone wanted a canvas pack it would be the WSS crowd.

This site got added to my favorites.

Ron,
Those canvas shelter halves are still widely available and dirt cheap, there is generally always one stashed somewhere in my canoe. I also buy them to cut up and use the material for other projects, great waterproofed canvas at a cheap price. Chris

I did notice that. I had been searching for them as Lean-to's. Thanks to finding the Frosts Pack website I spent some time thinking back and finally recalled they were referred to as "half-shelters" more often, and instantly found the old canvas things as soon as I typed the key words into google, for $19.00. They came with stakes and the poles too.

My son has been bugging me to go on an extended hiking trip, he needs to get in shape for it, and I want to gear up the way I remember doing before. The "half shelters" will be part of that plan I think. :D

Nostalgia hiking - should be great - especially with the kids!!

I usually forget the less-than-optimal aspects of trips gone by (failed gear, my poor/wrong choices, bugs/cold) and embellish the remembered parts!!!

I got a Frost River knapsack this past Christmas that I've been using daily. Tough, waterproof (had a water bottle leak inside, water just beaded up and wiped right off), holds all I need and more, and much more character than nylon. I like it.

I own two packs from Frost River but have owned three at one point or another. Currently I have the Woodsman as my EDC in the truck (light bug out kit) and I also have the Timber Cruiser Jr.. Both great packs that are bombproof IMHO. I've also owned the vintage pack - but sold it. THe packs I have are similiar to each other, but deferrent at the same time. I can't say enough in regards to their quality and if you want a tweek or mod, just call and they'll do it for you at a modest cost. They are comfortable too - when packed correctly!!!! Nice investment i'll pass down to my son someday. You could definately get a more techie backpack for less, but if your looking to cruise with some traditional class - give them a try! You wont be dissapointed.

Nice photo, great combo. You have good taste HawaiianHawk. Thank you for the affirmation, I have already ordered one pack. But this one is just the low cost book bag for my son, I will use that as reference for my purchase. :D

Thanks, Ron_m80. Hope your son enjoys that bookbag! I really do love my pack and intend on ordering one of the others, perhaps the Bushcrafter Jr. model, soon.

Frost River Cliff Jacobson Signature Pack. Lighter weight canvas. Full size side pockets. I had mine customized since this pic. Added a sternum strap, lash points and opened a seam on one side pocket so an axe could slide down.
