I am getting more and more interested in knives for cutting competitions and would love to see which ones my fellow forumites have in their collections - knowing some of the collectors that hang around on this forum I know there is more than a few of them...

Hi Ivan,
My only example, picked it up from Bailey Bradshaw this year.
Forged CPM 3V, 10" blade, 15" OA, .325" at ricasso.
Rubber handle for a secure, tack grip.

I am a big fan of competition knives. I have a knife from Adam DesRosiers that is based on his competition knives, but with a longer blade. I would love to get one of Dan Farr's.

Here are two I've done and posted before but figure i'll throw em out there again:
1/4" O-1, exhibition ironwood, Paul long sheath

Heres one i used in the NECKA hammerin:

Actually I was just wondering what the rules or specs are for a "Competition Cutter"? Do they have to be within a weight, any certain type of steel, handle etc? Most of the ones I've seen have no guards or single guards.I've got a couple of bowies that I would classify as "Cutters" from Matt Lamey & Jason Knight. That Bradshaw's pretty cool Doug.

Buddy,
Most of the competitions do have restrictions of size, but not weight. For instance the ABS and ICCT sets the limit for Blade length at 10 inches X 2 inches wide with the OAL of 15 inches. Of course some of the competitions even ask for you to use another type of knife all together. Fighter, hunter, etc. and the events will be tailored to that type of knife.
The challenge is to get the most knife built within that set size limit. Learning to do that is the real object of making knives and using them in a competition. :) Lin

Here's one from my collection by Dan Farr. Just a superbly designed and executed big using knife:

And here's one by Burt Foster. I believe this is the knife Burt used to win one of the cutting competitions - impressive considering the smallish 8" blade.

Here are a bunch of competition cutters from the 2004 SOS show:

And one by Reggie Barker, who knows a thing or three about cutting competitions:

Finally, an awesome pic by Buddy Thomason of his Crowell competition cutter:

I have this one by Lin Rhea, made along the same lines as the one he used to win the cutting competition at the Atlanta 2006 Blade Show. I used it a bit and it's a great chopper.

Thank you for the info Lin & the rest of you for your pics. Here's my cutter made by Matt Lamey. He liked this one so much he told me that if I ever sold it he would get 1st shot at it.
