I've twice suggested such a contest in conjunction with the Oregon show. The managment of the show is receptive but, so far, the masses have yet to achieve consensus.
As far as I'm concerned, I personally hold the title of unchallenged world's best balisong artist simply because I issued a formal challenge and nobody rose to accept it.
Perhaps we can address this topic anew with an eye toward the 2002 Oregon Show. We'll need to define some sort of "rules" and structure.
If we can define it, I'll get us a venue.

Balisongs -- because it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing! http://www.balisongcollector.com
Here's my suggestion: scoring along the same lines as - brace yourselves - figure skating. Set a time limit, some required manipulations, etc, and a panel of friendly judges rates your performance. Leotard & short skirts optional.

What's that - bag of tricks? ... Bag of knives!
...think I'll have to go take up Chuck on his challenge before there's a real contest... even if I drop the blade into my foot and scream like a woman, at least until there's a new contest, I can claim to have taken the #2 spot for a while.
The problem would be to get contenders at the same place at the same time. Since I will be debuting the Tachyon at the Blade Show you guys are welcome to hang out near my booth and flip all you like. I might even let you flip the Tachyon
And maybe you can elect a couple of judges and allow them to chose a winner even if the compitions are at different times.

The idea of a competition has been mentioned before, and was widely discussed for a while. It's still a good idea, but yes there are a number of problems involved, only one of which is getting enough balisong enthusiasts in the same place at the same time.
I would've answered Chuck's challenge,if I had a way to get to where he was
I still have a bunch of moves that I've only seen myself and a few others do...and would love to share them with Chuck and Clay, and anyone else for that matter..to have others carry on the knowledge & skills so that the next generation of enthusiasts can have more to learn
