Well my supplies are on the way to me as we speak and I needed a few questions answered because for the life of me I cant either find the answer or Im just stupid. if it matters Im using S30v steel for a 3-4in knife using the Cheapspeake guide as my guide.
So here they are...

1) When filing the bevels do produce the point of the knife by just carefully filing a taper while maintaining a constant angle to produce the point or is there some trick to it.

2) To make the actual edge of the knife I know you have to scribe a line to find the center of the knife but do you file the primary bevel to this line or do you make a rough edge and file to that?

3) Is there any tips to making a good edge?

4) Who should I send the knife to for heat treatment seeing as I am in Australia? Would it be a good idea for him to put the edge on for me if he is another maker or should this be done after its been cleaned up so I dont cut myself while finishing?

5) What would be a good grit for a working satin finish?

6) For the handles I want to attach them with bolts because I prefer the look of it and was recommended to this site - http://www.mcmaster.com/ (Scroll down the right side till Fastening and Sealing then click on Standoffs and look for female Threaded Round. And to use and allen screw to hold it all together - Search for Allen socket cap screws and click on the countersunk one.
However being a newb to this nuts and bolts numbers I cant figure out which is the right size for my handles and blades. If my handle is 1/4in thick and the blade is 0.187" thick. Making for a total of 0.687".

Wellt thats my list for now.
All help will be greatly appreciated!

Nick

On the edge scribe 2 lines approx. .040 apart and then file to that.
