Completed Imperial BSA GAW

One winner anyway, congrats to Bearbug.
Gearhead seems to have other things on his mind. I'll visitor-message Chunk and see if he's more interested in the second knife.
Thanks to all for your participation.

Congratulations Bearbug  Always disappointing when this sort of thing happens, but Good on yer SP

...
Sorry about the bat story, 5KQs. I hate the vile, foul, unnatural monsters myself. And sure they eat a lot of mosquitoes if you put them in a box of mosquitoes, but they'll eat bigger fatter bugs instead if left to their own devices.

It wasn't the bat itself that got to me (although I have no desire to have bats for pets); it was the omen aspect that got to me, being a rather nervous flyer myself.

5K, since that omen came out backwards, it helps me ignore them.
I also crossed the path of a black cat once, which is backwards of a black cat crossing my path, so should have been a good omen, but I failed the exam I was on my way to.
But then, black cats are good luck in England, and I'm second generation, so maybe it wasn't backwards...
But I refuse to spend any thought on flipping them or analysing their origins. No sirree, I don't think about them one bit. (Knocking on wood)

Jack, thanks. No big deal. If nobody wants the second knife I'm happy to keep it, but I have a lot more cards in the deck.

This just in:
Bearbug's knife went out today, TheChunk91's will go out tomorrow. So that's all sorted then. Whew.
These knives deserve owners who appreciate them enough to remember how many they have.
Enjoy the knives, guys, and thanks again to all who played.

No harm done, and there will be other GAWs. I'm glad you're not lying dead in a ditch somewhere.

I've offered Gearhead22 another knife, because I think I was too quick to cast his lot into the outer darkness, and my previous post looks a little condescending to me.

Haha nope not dead in a ditch just oblivious, apparently

I've offered Gearhead22 another knife
Thanks again scrteened, you didn't have to go through the trouble, but I certainly do appreciate the generosity immensely! :D

I found my knife in the mail after work last night. What a cool knife! I've had SAKs old and new and this reminds me of them, but better. I enjoy the heft and the way the blades look like they've been twisted through years of use. Upon closer inspection I realize they've been made this way including one sided grinds to allow all the blades to fit in the frame. It's got some gaps that I can squeeze by hand on the spine, I'm sure from years of use. I'm not sure whether to keep it original or to tinker with it. Does anyone know if it's CV or stainless? A big thanks again scrteened porch for the cool knife!

Its carbon with worn plating, probably chrome.
Myself, I would use it and see if it needs tinkering, but that's up to you. By he way, I tried searching the forum for its age without any luck.

I received my knife in the mail yesterday (very well oiled I might add ), and was very pleasantly suprised.
I didn't expect to find the tang stamped "pal cutlery" which is really intriguing, considering it's not a brand that i know much about, or have encountered before. The first thing I noticed was the amazing amount of character the knife has, and how solid the construction is. Strong springs, and even half stops :)... I also love the old style can opener!
Im not sure on the age of the knife, but for how old it looks, it seems in pretty great condition, with a lot of life left.

Overall, just a great older knife that will definitely see some use!
Thanks again scrteened for the awesome gaw prize!

(Apologies for the bad pic)

I'm glad you like it Gear. The Imperial I was going to send you turned out to have a pen instead of an awl, which isn't a proper scout knife in my book, and the closest substitute I had was the Pal. I think it's a good one. About all I know about them is that they bought Remington's cutlery division ca 1940.

Aaha so thats what happened! :D
Well I certainly appreciate it scrteened, i agree that a scout without the awl isn't a 'true' scout. It's most definitely a good one

That's about all I could find out as well.
But either way, it's really awesome to be be able to hold a part of history like that.
