Does anyone else suffer from the jangled nerves and inability to sleep when your getting REALLY close to finishing a project ?

I guess it mostly fear of screwing up so much effort in the last few steps.

Or am I just knuttso? :)

I'm going to get more antsy now about completing a project. See my "Steps in collaboration with Ray Archer" thread. I just discovered a major mistake while entering the last stages of completion and will have to take the knife apart and repair it! Always learning should be the motto of every knifemaker.

I've been sick in bed for a week. Last night I couldn't sleep thinking about a new design but didn't want to push it by going to the shop to play. So I just laid in bed and watched Blade Trinity. So no, you're not nuts, it's addiction!

You're not alone! I worked through last night finishing a sheath for a blade that doesn't have to be delivered till the 20th (guess the buyer gets it a week early) which is fine but now I'm afraid to touch anything else because I've been awake since 8am thursday and I've got that nice caffeine induced twitch happening. Now that I think of it, the blank can sit on a shelf for a month, but once I start into it, I can't put it down till it's done.

Have a good one,
Nathan Dallyn

Naw, I just sort things out as I go, and haven't lost any sleep over knifemaking, yet.

I have a santoku style blade that I've been slaving over for a while that I refuse to touch -- out of fear of screwing it up! I'm convinced that the moment I try to put the handle scales on I'll scratch it, or scuff it, or do something...

...guess it'll never get done, eh?

I get this way myself,so no your not alone.Sometimes I just cant seem to go do the final glue up as that is usually when everything goes wrong, screwups while getting to that point are easy fixes and dont bother me as much, but once you have locked it all together it can be allot different to fix....When I get in this state of mind Miss Donna just Gives me a good swift kick on the tail side and says "Just go do it and dont think about it,the knife will be fine"

I'm normally a very patient man when it comes to my projects but when I have to watch is right at the last few steps on everyone. So I guess what I'm saying is that I'm the exact same way. My wife gets into me about it all the time. Says I'm too 'anal' and to relax most everytime we discuss it. Other than this my biggest and most difficult thing to learn in all the years I've been doing what I do is knowing from experience when to leave well enough alone and when not to. There are far too many times when I've kicked myself for just going a touch too far and then not being happy. I'm one of those that made a lot of 'seconds' because of the way I am about it. Fortunately though later in life I think you wise up and begin to know when to move on something and when not to but I still screw up. I guess it will never change there. Only human as they say.

We're all Knuttso........we make knives don't we? They're so easy to buy at the store!

I loose serious sleep when a project is in the conceptual phase. Once the course is charted, I rest easier.

For me, I make myself crazy trying to meet my own deadlines. I'm going nuts trying to design a new method of making a friction folder.

Man I sure hate to be a part of this complex. I get the same type of thing when I am finishing up a project at work where one tiny detail out of thousands can screw up a software project.

Sometimes I just walk away for a few minutes, got outside take a deep breath just to put things in prespective.

Mark, relax and take your time, I know for a fact that the bozo who ordered it will be more than thrilled. ;).
