hello everybody,
i've been enjoying, using and abusing a waved delica and a caly jr zdp for a few months. i am really impressed and i would like to buy a new spyderco for my collection.
i am actually considering either a large (or mini) manix, or a military. my problem is that i really don't understand how the compression lock works and how it compares to a lock back. is it some kind of reversed liner lock?
thank you for the help.
also, is the zdp delica (or endura) as sharp as the caly jr out of the box?

thanks again

The Compression Lock is a completely new lock.

It looks like a linerlock, but it isn't at all related. Spine-directed force actually shoves the lockbar into the stop pin, making the lockup more secure, as compared to the linerlock, where spine-directed force can translate into lateral motion due to the curved or angled lockface.

I actually like it quite a bit and wish there were more Spydies with it.

My limited understanding is that it is very reliable and strong, but it requires some high-precision machining that is difficult to do without CNC-guided equipment, unlike the linerlock, so custom makers don't use it.

As for the ZDP Delica vs. ZDP Caly Jr.... given that one is a low sabre and the other is a full flat, I'd expect that both are probably pretty good on low density material but the Caly pulls through on anything that requires that high full flat grind.
