Does anyone know if the compression pin in the Paramilitary and the Superhawk are interchangeable?
I don't have a Paramilitary, so I can't check it myself.

Apparently the Compression lock is a very finiky mechanism, Sal himself says it's a PITA to manufacture. I would be very hesitant to play with it (take it apart).
Whether or not the two parts are interchangable, I don't know. The real question is why would you want to do something like that? If there's something wrong it should really be sent in for service.

Here......since you just NEED to know "Mr. Impatient man"......... NO. They are not!

Happy?

Well, "impatient" might be pushing it. I think 24 hours is a reasonable time period before bumping your thread.

People switch blades for different finish/steel type, but it's hard to see any practical application for switching the stop pin.

Biggest problems with getting an answer from someone other than Sal is that a totally reliable answer would require someone to: own both knives, have a decent quality micrometer or dial calipers, and, assuming the OD was the same, be willing to take them apart to make certain the stop pin screws were the same size since that would certainly be a factor as well. Since they're made in two different countries and, as has been mentioned, the compression lock tends to be rather finicky, my gut tells me the chances of interchangeability are slim to nil.

Okay, good to know.
I have two Superhawks, and the screws which hold the pin in pin stripped when I went to take them out(to sand down the sharp edges on the liners).
Drilled out the screws on one, and ran a tap through to remove the residual metal in the threads, and put in new screws.
IF they were interchangable, I'd have bought a couple of replacement pins from Spyderco; as it is, I guess I'll just have to drill out the other stripped screws.
What the heck is up with the screws? Are they loctitied or something? I've NEVER had screws strip on my other knives.

I believe the good majority of them should be loctited.

As has been said, swapping a Para's stop pin with a Superhawk's stop pin will probably not turn out well.

Why can't you get a couple of replacement pins for the Superhawk though? I'm under the impression that pins in one Superhawk should work in another with a bit of adjusting. Otherwise they'd have a terrible time at the factory.

Given that the Superhawk is still in production, I sure Spyderco could put everything back together in good order for less than the price of a Para.

I'll see.
I just know that when I'd e-mailed about getting parts for a Spyderco made in Japan, they'd replied that they don't have spare parts in Golden for them.
Not sure if the Superhawk is any different.
Guess I'll shoot off an e-mail to them.:)
