Hey, everyone,

My internet has not only been spotty, but my computer crashed a few weeks ago and I lost of ton of stuff on my hard drive.

Anyhoo, I'll be here, but it will be spotty. Working to recover the documents and reviews I lost...ugh. I am behind!

Sorry to hear of your problems Brian.

I had the same problem this spring; thankfully I was covered by my office computer.

Loosing contact sucks (not to mention loosing your files). :thumbdn:

At least your knives are still sharp…

…They are sharp, aren’t they?

I will keep trying to cope with out you, it gets harder and harder each day. Please hurry back:rolleyes:

:p

I hate midget chicken porn viruses :) almost as much as pc-online!!! Took a bit to get that one off. Hope ya get it all fixed Brian, good luck.

All you need is one big crash and you learn the advantage of backing up the old pooter. We get real comfortable with a certain computer and even if you back stuff up, you often don't choose to back up "things that aren't important". Those little things will kill ya. Been there.

My main computer at home crashed in December. It was dead or I thought it was dead. Messed around with it for a couple weeks hoping it would just start working again as it always did. Finally hired a computer guy to take stuff off my old harddrive. I wasn't sure that it was working either, but I was pretty sure prior to the computer geek doing his thing.

I lost business files and a lot of the stuff I depended on. I had backed up about a month or so prior to the crash on an external hard drive, but still it was only business stuff that got backed up. Little things like using photo editing software that you no longer had the discs for. It's a pain. I feel you pain.

I spent over a $1000 and still was missing stuff. New computer. New software. New printer as the old one just wouldn't work with the new computer. Such is life. Now I have a couple laptops and a desktop. All get backed up periodically.

sorry to hear that Brian,
sorry for th dumb question, but did your hard drive died completely , or there are hardware problems , or its just the OS thats dead ?

kick it really hard with malice

It's because you let that little dog inside to clean up...

He probably peed on the hard drive and/or cables...

:)

LOL. It's only recent stuff that got lost, but it was several reviews and articles...actually, they will be recoverable, and that's in process...it's just that now I am behind deadlines for gear reports and reviews that I have promised. Grrrrrrrrr!

Get that computer fixed buddy but don't worry, I'm still here! I'll hold down the fort.

I'm with you Brian. My daughter (18 mths) is absolutly fascinated with the laptop we have at home. So far she has managed to completly destroy the right side ctrl key, crack the lid/screen backing and break the center post of the AC power port. (Center post is hot, sides are ground) It is over 5 years old so the battery is toast so the repeated power failures crashed the drive.

I took it to work, completly disassembled it and desoldered the AC connector from the mother board. I discouvered that the connector is made from dissimilar metals so it could not be resolded to restablish the connection. I tried to get a replacement but that was a bust. Plan B was to see if I could find a docking port. I lucked out and got one off that action site for $15 shipping included. After about two weeks I was able to get everything reassembled and powered up. The hard drive recouvery was quick and painless and I did not loss any files.

The saga is not over as the wireless card built into the mother board decided to give up the ghost last week so now I have a new wireless card on order. I hope it arrives soon. Thankfully I have the computer at work in the interm.

It is past time for a new computer but the money just isn't there.

Yeah, you better behave :grumpy:
