Okay first off, I hate Norton with a passion that burns hotter than the flames of a blast furnace. I use Comodo Antivirus.
 
Don't pay for antivirus. Microsoft Security Essentials, combined with Malwarebites, Adaware, and other free programs is all you ever need, as long as you're not doing anything stupid or going where you shouldn't.
 
Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and adblock plus using Google chrome should be the lightest security pack I can think of.

Lastly don't get Apple, they fail just as easily as any computer in hardware and they're becoming high targets due to delays in security patches (by delays I mean some exploits still exist after a decade and are likely to never be patched up only worked around due to the unix base).
I visit some private forums where programmers get together to discuss security flaws, buy sell programming, and mostly brag.
With security one of the most critical aspects of a security system is accountability. That is something Apple has always shied away from when it comes to security. They refuse to acknowledge or take responsibility, even when evidence is clear.

If security is your priority, get Linux and stay off the web.
If you want something to browse the web and you got extra cash to make a fashion statement get OSX (Apple).
If you got anything serious to do, get a Windows based PC.
 
Norton itself is a Virus, I use Kaspersky, not a problem so far...

THIS!!! I use MSE and Malwarebytes. You pay the one time fee for Malwarebytes and its upgrades for life, gets you better and faster protection. (The free one works well also :))

I have second computer down stairs with 102 day left with Norton.

I'm going to let it run out and than change it also....:)
