computer help

Have not found the files. And every time I synch the ipod, I lose more off of it. For the life of me, I cannot figure out what i am doing wrong. I am now a "converted" believer- back your files up-folks- or suffer my (deserved) fate! Will try again to find them but am in middle of 4 back to back 12 hr shifts. Will get back to all of you on Monday. Thanks.

ok..

the reason your ipod keeps loosing music is because it is set to sync with your itunes software.

meaning... if the ipod does not find the same music on itunes then itunes will delete the music off of the ipod.

hence why you are experiencing music missing off your ipod.

i do not believe that all is lost. it should still be possible to salvage your music.. because in essence no file is absolutely deleted unless you do a secure wipe of the drive (let that be a warning that other people can view your deleted files if they have the knowledge).

try connecting the external harddrive (a.k.a HDD) to your laptop. once everything has been connected press the start button in the bottom left corner then press the search function. try and inputting one of the songs that you know was part of your library but went missing.. make sure to click on the "pictures, music, video" option to help narrow your search and reduce run-time.

if you find the songs you will most likely be able to find all the others. once you find the files you can right click the music file then press "open containing folder" this should open a new window which is the location of the music files.

make sure to note this location as it will be where you can find your music.

after that has been completed and you know for sure where the files are, delete the contents of your itunes library. DO NOT delete the actual files, itunes should prompt you whether or not you want to delete the files, DO NOT DELETE THE FILES.. just delete off of itunes (removing off of the list).

now.. take all the new audio files which you have found and then add then to your itunes, please keep in mind that from now on you will have to have the external harddrive connected to your laptop prior to turning on itunes or syncing with your ipod.

hope this helps.

feel free to post again if you need more help.

cheers

also... as a technician i can tell you pretty easily that its not a question of if your harddrive is gonna die, its a question of WHEN... like all things mechanical your harddrive, containing precious data, family photos, music (in your case) etc... will be lost if you do not back them up... get your photos printed, burn your music in data format onto dvds (4.5gb of storage = 4500mb | 1 song = approx. 5mb | 4500/5 = 900 songs) and print out important documents as well as backing them up.

cheers mate hope all goes well..

keep us posted

Am working back to back 12 hr shifts. Have not found files. Still lose files every time I synch the ipod. Will get back to y'all o9n Monday. Thanks.

Stop looking for the files by plugging in the iPod. The iPod will only find files you have ripped yourself and not any files you have purchased from iTunes and then moved to a different location.

Look for them without the iPod plugged in by clicking on My Computer, then clicking on the drive (which is plugged into the USB port) and looking through the folders. Let us know if you can see the files on the drive.

:D :D :D :) I am getting some music back-but some of it is in wma form (from the windows player on my pc?) and itunes is converting them. Still cannot find the videos (still using suggested search functions). Will keep you updated. Gracias mucho, guys. At least I am getting a "crash" course in technology. Again-danke, spasibo, tres bien-thanks.

no problem man glad to be able to help you some what.

hopefully, we'll be able to resolve this issue and get ya back on your feet with your music

 I found 2 tv folders-2 episodes from different series. I don't know how I found them-it seems from looking at my files that I have created an infinite number of Itunes subfolders with "tv shows" as sub-sub folders.;) Have I created an alternate universe? Thanks again-will keep you updated as I explore the innards of my laptop.
