computer problem, resolution set to 4 colors

The solution was, as often is, very trivial. When I first checked for the motherboard drivers I called up the specifics on aopen's website, found the video card specific ones and downloaded and installed. This did nothing to solve the problem as noted in the above. Yesterday I went back to get other drivers specifically LAN and USB 2.0 and noticed another set of video drivers, those ones worked.

Man hath no rage comparable to one caused by PC's! :) I hate the damned things, they just sit there all smug and unanswering like a Russian border control officer ;)

*guess I should read the whole thread before replying. Glad its fixed*

The problem is the device driver for the graphics gpu. There should be an updated driver to work with xp. Start looking on the manufacturers website for drivers(if it is an onboard video adapter look at the motherboard manufacturer). If you can't find it there you will have to find a third party driver. If the odds are aginst you, you may have to install a pci or acp graphics card, they can be had starting at us$20.00 on tigerdirect.com.
