Took a CC class this weekend. I have a large mil spec 45 and am looking at getting a sub compact 45 for CC. I am liking the Xd 45 but am open. Also looked at the glock. I am not trying to buy a 1911 which has been suggested.
I will be sticking with 45. Anyone like the XD? Any other suggestions? Sorry thought this was the best spot to ask and respect the audience.

I rotate a G30S & G36. The G36 carries easier because it's lighter and slimmer but the G30S isn't bad. Plus you get 10+1 vs 6+1. My brother had an XDs .45 that he quickly sold because of feed issues. I think he was limp wristing it or using junk ammo (he's a tight arse) but he swears it was the gun.

I carried 1911's for quite a few years. Switched to a Glock 36 about 8 years ago...

I still love 1911's, but the 36 is slim and carries IWB easily, isn't very heavy, and I don't worry about it. It has thousands of rounds through it, and has never had a FTF. I did have to do a little reshaping of the frame to fit my fat hands better.

The Glocks won't rust, and will work even if it is very dirty. They aren't perrty, but that's not why you carry. I do wish they would make a 19 sized 45. IMHO that would be the perfect carry gun, because I like Commander sized 1911's, and the 19 is very close

I also carried a G36 for awhile. Mine was stoked with Cor-Bon 185gr+P.

It never missed a beat feeding all factory ammo I put through it. Easy to conceal and nice and thin. An excellent compact 45acp.

I am biased though......I am a big Glock fan for edc.:)

I've been carrying a full sized 1911 for the last month under a light shirt now that is cooler out here. I'm sure if you were really looking you could tell but most people are oblivious to their surroundings and other people so o'well.

Smith & Wesson MP45C.
I carry a S&W MP Shield 9 and my boss carries a S&W MP40C.
The S&W MP's are made in the USA... The Springfield pistols are made in Croatia. Food for thought.

The XD is a very good pistol but have you ever given the Kimber Handguns a thought.?
I have 4 of the Kimber Auto's ~ 2 in 9mm and 2 in the 45 cal. and they are sweet to shoot and easy on the
Eye's ~~ just not that easy on your Wallet though as both the 1911 and Glocks will save you a "few" $$$$.!
Go to a Range and shoot one and you will just feel the quality and workmanship as you rack a Mag. through
it.**

I have thought about getting a Kimber Super Ultra Carry. I am a Sig guy, but, Sig's Ultra Compact 1911 offering just didn't feel right in my hand...the Kimber just felt better.
my .02

I seriously considered the XDs in 45, but after shooting it I went straight back to my 1911's. Currently the S&W PC 1911 (4.25") Round Butt. Carries amazingly both IWB and OWB. Only gives me 8+1 capacity, but I don't think anyone carries a 45 and still expects a 17 round capacity.

The XDs was just a handfull with full power 45's, and chewed up my hands fast. Even my little Officer's size Springfield Micro Compact 1911 is a dream to shoot 200-300 rounds per session.

I think the other options have pretty much already been covered...XD, Glock, or M&P. I love my Glock's and M&P's, but both are just too fat to carry comfortably (for me). I've never had a G36, but would like to some day.

For me, the G30SF is a perfect fit. It's out of the box accuracy is really impressive and size is great for CCW. Also has the benefit of 10rds...

I have a Sig Sauer 1911 TacOps Carry with the 4.25" barrel....im looking for a smaller 1911.

I am starting to boycot non american made products. I will look into this.

All I've got is big guns. But if this state's concealed carry laws actually change, I'm going to look into getting a Glock 26.

I just recently got an HK45c to use as a CCW. I like it so far. The trigger on mine isn't fantastic, but it's more than serviceable and for a carry piece I wouldn't expect a match trigger. It certainly isn't a subcompact or pocket pistol, but I can conceal it just fine on my 5'8" 150 lb. frame. It really is a sweet gun and I look forward to getting to know it better. Especially since everywhere I've read has told me H&K handguns are bombproof.

I carry a glock 30 sf, it cc's extremely well and it takes full size mags. That means your back ups can be 13 rounds

I got a F&N P45 so am looking for something on the oposite end. Would like something with little to no printing. The HK is a little too much for my wallet currently.

There are a lot of manufacturers that make quality weapons, in a variety of sizes. It is hard to go wrong with any of them. You can get a lot of them in similar sizes, but the action and operating controls will vary. A Glock is very much different from a 1911 which is very much different from a SIG sa/da. S&W, Glock, HK, Ruger, Kimber, Springfield all make good choices.

I think if I was looking for a CC in .45ACP I would consider the S&W M&P or the SIG P245, based mainly on size. Stricly my guesses though, lots of people like the Glocks, lots of people like the Springfield XD.

Considering your size and wardrobe, you might also consider the smaller models in .40S&W. A Glock 23 for instance has a lot of power for its size and is a lot easier to carry than the larger models in .45ACP.

I carry a Glock 30S every day. It is not the thinnest, shortest, or lightest; however..., it is accurate, reliable, and concealable / comfortable with the right holster. Concealed carry requires a certain amount of compromise. What are you willing to compromise???
