I think conealex is a brand name that is distributed by Blade-Tech in Tacoma, WA. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Hi Renfield...
UW Mitch...

Mitch,, you are correct....

They are a few differences between the two...
Most is appearence and some slight working differences, Concealex seems to be a bit stiffer as well...

Concealex has a matt black finish, where Kydex has a more shiny textured finish, something like a heavy leather grain.

The working differences are minor...Both good products. I just prefer the Concealex myself..

Hope this helps...

ttyle Eric...

I have made hundreds of Kydex sheaths, and many in Concealex. I can barely tell the difference in a finished sheath. I prefer Kydex. Although they are both fantastic, and very difficult to tell apart. Most factories seem to use the terms interchangeably. Of note, BladeTech who sells Concealex also sells the Tek-Lok. The Tek-Lok in my opinion is the greatest thing to happen to Kydex Sheaths, since eyelets.

Kydex and Concealex have somewhat similar properties but the polymers themselves are different. I'll have to contact Victor and see if I can get info on the difference. Anyway, from my observations I have found that:

1) Kydex comes in an incredible range of textures, colors, thicknesses, etc. Most plastics distributors carry the Calcutta black color, though, which seems to vary somewhat from batch to batch.

2) Concealex seems to be more finicky with heat, and it seems to hug the contours of the knife a little better. It is also stiffer, making it really easy to get nicely finished edges, countersunk holes, and the clips turn out nicely.

Both make great sheaths.
