im interested in making my own sheath for my KA-BAR. i have narrowed my options down to a Kydex or Concealex kit from knifekits.com. what i would like to know is their any difference between the two? i can only see a color difference

From what I understand, concealex is able to give you the same degree of stiffness at a thinner thickness than kydex. I think. The knife for which you intend to use it is a beefy hard use blade. I would go with kydex since I'd have more confidence in a thicker piece of material stopping the blade.

I got the $10 Kydex kit from Knifekits a while ago: good stuff but the ball chain they ship is completely useless. I know you're not doing a necker (but I was...grumblegrumblegrumble)

Comes with a decent preformed pocket clip though.

I haven't used concealex, but doesn't it have a weave to it ? (Kydex doesn't)

It's been awhile since I messed with Concealex but what I remember is that it was more difficult to work with. Didn't form quite as easily as the Kydex. It was okay but unless I need a specific pattern on it I'm going to stick with Kydex.

From what I have read, the Concealex will roll-up when heated making it more difficult to work with. I've made several out of the .60 Kydex. It is very durable and easy to work with.
