Great question, ive often thought about this myself. Years ago i called one of the companys who suppled a famous knife maker that i was collecting and their answer was , as the steel comes down the line before it gets melted it runs past a radiation dector and pulled out before it gets melted, also they said it goes thru another dectector after the steel sheets cool. Your question is very valid with all the recycling going on things could get melted down, i remeber reading where this happened and the steel was used for garden rakes. I think you should call a metal supplier such as crucible steel and ask this question, What prevents steel contamination. Again great question:thumbup:
