Concerns about BIG folders

Jeans pockets and the actual - not percieved - waist size has a lot to do with it too! Doesn't seem to be nearly the problem with micro fiber hiking pants, even with shallow pockets; the cut is always much looser.

We fashion clothing by waist and leg length, but "rise" length to the natural waistline as a measurement is largely ignored except by custom tailoring. Probably explains "plumbers butt."

Grippiness of the handle/clip on that material affects it, too. The SnG also has the clip located over the framelock cutout, which allows the pocket seam some room while adding to the grasp of the clip - mine doesn't even touch the Ti frame. but works quite well.

The CUDA Maxx makes a great food prep knife. If it weren't so large, it wouldn't be as good a slicer for carving roasts or melons or loaves of bread.
Not to mention getting down to the bottom of the peanutbutter jar better than most folders.;)
I also love large folders and own 4 with blades of 5 1/2 inches. I find them easy to carry daily.

Just a note on the CUDA 5.5, the most suprising thing to me about this knife was the pocket carry comfort and mine has never slipped up on the clip. I did notice some jean pockets being more shallow than others so I guess this could be a problem.
WOOK

Many of you seems to use the mega-folders a lot for food preparation, but...
What was the hardest test you put on your mega-folders?

Yo se, no es facil escribir en una otra lengua.

Wow! I didn't see that coming!
I don't feel alone anymore :D

Hi guys!

Yesterday, I went to a gun shop and had the chance of handle the SOG Spec-Elite II.
I was shocked!
First, is very rare to see a decent knife here in a costarican shop.
Second, is very rare to see a knife that big!
You can find the specs here:
http://sogknives.com/store/SE18.html#

The Spec-Elite II is a BIG knife, heavy and solid, but smooth and nice to hold.

But....

It really make sense to make a folder this big?
Is a massive blade, maybe can do a nice light chopping, but it has to make a lot of leverage, and only a couple of pins holds it in possition and protects your fingers.

Again, make sense a folder that big? What do you think?

It's not big at all,the knives you are used to have been miniaturized over the generations as our uses for them became less demanding and we became softer and weaker. Look at a Navaja or Clasp Knife or folding Boatswain's knife from just 100 years ago. They would dwarf the tiny "knife jewelry" most men have carried in their pockets since 1930 but the demand for a real working man's/fighting man's folding knife has been rediscovered by a world at war taking it's last gasp of freedom before being deprived of supposedly dangerous tools by a bunch of scared panty waists who couldn't divide up a hamburger with a machete much less trust themselves with a pocket knife.

I personally like a huge folder in lieu of fixed blades because in a few states anything that folds and fits in your pocket is "legal" whereas even a small fixed utility knife is not.Especially in Oklahoma where anything double edged carries the potential of a felony conviction due to their archaic 1800s knife dueling prevention laws making daggers, dirks, toothpicks, etc illegal but if you have a 5" double edged Darrel Ralph in your pocket it's alright;)

Alberto, you know you secretly want the big folding knife and want us to talk you into it so here I go: Alberto needs a larger pocket knife made from some wickedly sharp steel and nobody has the right to tell him he can't have it;)

You are mean!

But you're right! ;)

I want a big folder!

But I can't justify it :( I only buy knives that I will use, and I probably will never carry something above the 4" blade, it will be too big in my pocket!

Anyway is a fun conversation topic!
I still want to know some stories about hard used big folders :)

Another big folder lover here. Most of my knives can do a lot of the tasks that I need them for, any other feature is really a fun factor. Granted I can chop better with a larger folder, but I don't ever really need to chop. I enjoy the knife based on how much fun I can have with them and appreciate them.

I have a BM710 and that's an almost 4 in.. looking to get a Skirmish.. thats about 4.3 in.. the bigger the better... but my usual EDC is a BM14210 with a 3 in blade..

I got my Strider RC yesterday and it's a beast ... I was shocked how big of a folder it was. I'm quite diggin it though!

I sold my Sebenza, an awesome, well built knife, because it didn't really do it for me and bought a Spyderco ATR Ti and a Benchmade 630 Skirmish with the money, I love big folders and the Skirmish is the one! (THWACK!) (Unless it's just another phase of being knife crazy.)
