Sorry, I got the name wrong regarding the bone-cutting tests. It was Mario (Gaucho on BFC), not Maurice, who did the cutting test with legs of lamb as linked below.

Surely this must be B.S., regardless of what folks say, bone is tough ( not just tough, but it can bind a blade easily, even a razor sharp blade), and cutting through 5 bodies?? Urban myth! Try cutting all the way through a deer carcass with one blow! Haha! Same ole japanese sword BS, course, they did behead people in one blow.Mainly ours.

Fold the steel, multiple it, bless it with animalistic spirits, blood the blade, etc, and you have a mythical blade, nah.

Guys, I re-read my post. Man, I didn't mean it to come out quite like that. Sorry if I offended anyone.

AFAIK, they really did that stuff. Not every blade made could live up to the 5 body standard. Only the best of the best.
And I bet technique had alot to do with it ;)

Not to beat a dead horse, haha. But you do realize cutting through 5 bodies is in reality cutting through at leat five feet of flesh and bone?

that Asian people in general are rather small; no viking cro-magnons here; easier to cut through little people than big ones.

This is a strange thread.

I've often marveled at how fine boned some people, especially women are. They have a wrist like a twig and same could snap just as easily. Ouch....

ps mark; I love your hat'n welding glasses pic...

Couple thoughts-

To generalize, living bone cuts about like green hardwood. But, someone should point out the leg bones are much harder than say, the ribs. Anyone ever go through CPR training? The whole idea is to compress the rib cage against the heart. Obviously the ribs flex more than the structures which must bear weight. When legs are cut, they sometimes get cut cleanly like wood, but are often actually broken as much as cut. Oh, and watch out for those teeth! They'll nick your edge every time! :D

I find skin to be a much bigger part of the equation than flesh. If your blade can get through the skin, the flesh will be no problem.
