Condor Bolo Machete

If it were me trying to thin it out, I'd probably whittle it down to just above the size I wanted then hit it with sandpaper, ending in a relatively fine grit to avoid generating hairy little string of plastic off of the surface. :)

I hit it with the belt sander, then the grinder when the sander wasn't doing it fast enough. Little black stringies going everywhere. Slow progress... the plastic seemed to be melting more than being sanded off. I think the whittling idea would work better, but the sander/grinder got me there eventually. Wrapped the handle in hockey tape, and now it's perfect. Fits just right in a Cold Steel double-edged machete sheath too...

Vec,

I've made edge guards by splitting garden hose. It can be a pain to get the cut straight but once secured they really protect well. Mac

that sounds great, brother.

a lot of those slightly-smaller beverage hoses and similar have worked well for me (man is that an old memory dredged up from the dead brain cells).

- i kind of like the idea of the hard shoe, because of its added uses possiblity of being a good rabbit stick, if done right.

Here is a pvc machete sheath I made for my Condor bolo machete while I awaited the arrival of the factory sheath. It was late, hardware stores all closed, so I used an old vacuum attachment hose.

She isn't the prettiest but is fully functional. Super sturdy and fits snugly.

I've got to make some sheaths like that...did you use a heat gun or oven?

I used an old butane bbq with aluminum foil on the grill. But you have to be careful as it will melt and deform the bottom section if heat is too high or if left too long. A big pot of hot water or heat gun is prob the way to go. I am sure some members here have done this many times.
