I was using this to clear out some wild rose vines and this is what happened on the 3rd swing:(

This is only the 2nd time I've used it. It's not like I was trying to cut down a tree or chop up some cinder blocks. Just vines. I would like to think that I just got one with a bad heat treat or something but....

Don't think I'll buy another Condor product. I'll try something else.

Anybody need an almost new condor golok black leather sheath:p. I have one for a good price:)

What a bummer! I really like my Condor Golok. That must be bad heat treat. Or maybe inclusions in the steel?

1075 is inherently tough, so for that to break while chopping vines, they definitely did something wrong.

Man, that's terrible!
I got rid of my Condor Golok. (It was a great product, just didn't feel right in my hands)

Are you looking at getting something to replace it?

Yeah, judging by the performance of my buddy's Golok, I'd say a lemon of some sort. Could be HT or microfractures..

Do they have a warranty or something?

Condor has a solid warranty. contact them and youll have a new one in no time. then back to chopping those vines.

If 42 Blades pops in on this thread, he usually has a telephone number and will most likely tell you with certainty that Condor will replace the Golok. Contact them. They'll fix the issue if the what I read is correct on the threads.

Got this from one of his posts about my Condor blades: (see link in next post) Email him.

They most certainly will replace that. I guarantee it was a bad heat treatment. Contact Rick Jones at Condor with those photos and a shipping address and he'll send you a brand new one pronto, and at no expense to you. Condor is good people, and they stand behind their product.

I got a new Viking machete last summer after giving my old tried-and-true one to a fellow in need, but then was too busy up until recently to put the new one through the ropes. When I went to clean up some blown-down tree limbs after a storm it broke on the second swing. I sent a photo to Rick and he had a new one sent immediately. The new one is just as good as the first one I gave away.

I also bought a Rodan for myself back when they first came out, and the original sheath style lacked good retention. When they came out with the improved style I wrote him asking if I could buy one of the new sheaths. He sent me one of the new ones for free.

Edit to add: Looks like you have one of the old 2010 ones--the 2011 model was upgraded to a skeletonized full tang. So if you contact them for replacement you'll technically be getting an upgrade.

From what I have heard is that Condor has a good warranty, but my experience with them has been bad.

In June I bought a Bushlore, turned out too be the old 2010 model, I tried to contact their sales manager (Rick Jones) too see if I could get it replaced with the new 2011 model, sent 2 e-mails, none we're replied to.

I hope you have a better time dealing with them than me.

Steel is "inherently" . . . . . . steel.

Whether it's tough or not is a matter of what is done with it in terms of forging (or casting), design, and heat treatment.

A "good" company produces blades to a consistent level of good quality. With others, it's hit and miss -- or perhaps hit and break.

As it happens, mature, dry Floribunda rose canes can be quite tough and contain knots like pines can.

that sucks to hear. unfortunately shit happens, but a good warranty will straighten out the few bad apples that get released. contact condor and report back to us with how everything is being handled.

That's crappy luck man, I really love my Golok and it has served me well but I suppose even the best companies turn out a lemon every know and again

Hmm, ive beat the living crap out of my golok since ive had it and havent had problems so it has to be a faulty blade.

Seriously ive taken down trees that should have had a chainsaw used on them and so far the blade isnt even dented or rolled.

If you're serious about getting rid of the sheath pm me. But if I were you, I'd contact Condor and let them have the opportunity to make this right. When you get the replacement if you still don't feel good about it you could probably sell it in about five minutes.

I have read the occasional threads here which showed similar issues with other Condors.
It's simply a production flaw, which is not typical of most of the production.
Most other people are not experiencing this.
I can understand if this creates a lack of trust in the blade for you, but I don't really think it should. The Condors are good blades, and there is an occasional flaw. They will send you a new one. That's all they can do.
If it were me, I'd get a replacement and use it. I'm in production work, and I understand that warranty issues are part of life.

Hey, dude! Rick is their only guy handling all of that stuff in addition to sales work, so he's flat out busy pretty much 24/7. The guy even works on weekends! Since your emails have seemingly gotten lost try giving him a call at 1-407-354-3488. If you don't get through leave a message and he'll usually get back to you within an hour. The latest I've had him respond to a phone call was first thing the next morning. Let me know if that still doesn't work for you.

I had a condor golok that the ball broke of the handle on (it was one of the early versions w/o a full tang). I sent them an e-mail with pictures, and they literally had me one in the mail that day. I've been nothing but pleased with condor. I would do as others have said and contact them, they'll take care of you.

Good thing this was not a survival situation

Nobody should trust any knife or gun for the field that has not been put through some actual use, not just in the kitchen or the range. Same as a tent or emergency shelter that you have never put up.
If you carry a tarp/poncho and cord expecting to make shelter without practice good luck! Injured, cold or just regular impatience with the pouring rain will be a litmus test.
Buy one and use it for some time before you trust it.
I have 2 sk-5 trailmasters and would never consider putting the brand new unused one in a bugout bag etc unless I used it for at least 4 or 5 weekend trips to make sure that particular knife is solid. Everything manufactured can slip past QC once and a while.

^This.

It amazes me, of all the Condor designs, that this one was even breakable. Considering the steel, and that incredibly clean break, I'm kinda dumbfounded.
