I really like this knife, and sanded the wood scales smooth and notched it too. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a lanyard hole. I always put a lanyard on my big knives for safety reasons. I was wondering if the tang is hardened thru and if I can take a cobalt drill bit to it to make a hole at the rear. Thanks.

I had trouble with the cobalt drill bits on the Green River knives. Your Hudson Bay might be a little softer. I used a masonary (carbide tipped) drill bit and a drill press to cut the Green River blades. Your hole won't be the cleanest but a larger all carbide spade bit will cost $$$.

I have a cobalt 1/4" bit, might try it today. If it doesn't work, I'll try a carbide. Thanks.

If you are going to use 1/4" brass tubing, you could cut your first hole with a 3/16" masonary bit to get through the metal then use a 1/4" regular bit on either side to make a clean hole then epoxy the tubing in on each side.
