Condor Knife & Tool owners: Give an honest opinion

I have a Hog Sticker and a 10" Mountain Bowie. The Hog Sticker has a slight lateral curve to the blade, but nothing that affects cutting or chopping and the Mountain Bowie has no problems at all. I have a CS Seax Machete as well and there really is no comparison between the CS machete and the Condor. The Condor arrived sharper, had a better sheath, and feels much better in the hand.

I have no regrets about either one.

The Nessmuk and Bushcraft Basic use the exact same sheath so it sounds like you got a real bum one. Also, dang that's a high price! Though I understand pricing in the UK for knives tends to be a little inflated.

There was around 2 years between the two knives purchase date so I guessed the newer ones used cheaper brown leather and not the thick black stuff they used to. Or this might just be the case here in England and not for you guys..

and yes the pricing is always sour and exagerated for no real reason here, I paid £50 ($80) for a buck 110 to add to my collection and it's certainly not a £50 knife! haha I still like it very much but I'm sure you can understand my point. I can order straight from US dealers and have the knives at half price due to the value of the US dollar comapred to the GBP, but postage is always around £30 and our postal service has this lovely way or forcing us to pay an additonal £20+ on handling fees for 'valuble' items that they 'handle?' for us.. so it works out the same in the end, no bargains to be had.

Another knife I really want is the kbar adventure potbelly but at £110 for a knife I know isn't costing anyone else in the world that much, I think I'll pass!

It's unfortunate for myself as I quite like alot of american made knives and tools. I wonder, is it our importers ripping us off?

I'm sure VAT doesn't help either! The sheath for the Nessmuk is brown at this point in time, and the leather used in all of the sheaths is generally very thick though I see a thin one come through once in a very blue moon. I think it's just an occasional thinner hide makes it into their leather supply. Chances are, though, that due to the high pricing in the UK that you have a greatly increased likelihood to receive older production stock if purchasing locally since the inventory turnover rate is probably pretty slow.

Wow... I always thought Condor only made machetes and stuff like that...

I've had my eye on a SOG throwing hatchet, but don't like the fact that it's SS. I'd much rather have carbon. I feel like I have just been introduced to a whole new catagorie of collecting.

Some of the stuff looks kinda pricy ($45 for a small throwing knife is too much) but a lot of it looks great.

Axes... bushcraft... neck knives... throwers... shovels... hatchets... pipe knives (!)... swords...

Oh no...

I have a bushcraft knife in micarta and the blade shape is wacked out, cuts ok though.

Thai enep and golok machetes i also own, 1/4 thick. Beautiful knives, but the steel seems shitty and the edge's are laughable. I had the thai enep seriously reprofiled and it cut well but the steel was way to soft and kept rolling and even denting on the edge.

My Golok has never rolled and i have abused it. In fact id say its held up better than any other knife ive owned.

I've never experienced edge rolling either. Nothing wrong with the steel quality but if it's denting then there's something wrong. How'd you reprofile it?

I love Condor. I've got the Golok, Barong, Village Parang, Dundee Bowie, Bush Knife, Thai Enep Knife, Kukri Machete, and have the Thunderhead Machete on order, and I'm nowhere near having all the Condor stuff I want to own. The hardest part is deciding WHICH to get next. Viking Machete? Hudson Bay Knife? Pack Golok? Parang? Go small and pick up a couple of of their neck knives? Go premium and pick up the Boomslang? So many choices!

I haven't abused mine nearly as much as other people here, as most of my use is just chopping for fun out in my yard, but I never had any problems with them, either.

Jeez, this thread makes me want to dig my big ol' Hudson Bay out and make a fire.

They're a nice full flat grind and Condor's 420HC is good stuff. The factory edge on the ones I've gotten in are REALLY obtuse but I've been thinning them out myself until Condor fixes it themselves. I really like it.

I had a tree fall on my chicken coop today. I also got my engineers bolo yesterday. It was a fun day. The damn thing is a brute though. Easily went through 2 inch branches. The tree was a longleaf pine and the bolo demolished it within 2 hours. It was incredibly easy, but wearing. 2 blisters on my hands, and I feel like I wrestled several rabid bears. But thanks to mr.42 for the special grade. And an added bonus it=s it it can still kind of shave.
I thought it was too heavy when I first got it, but the weight really helped when I was chopping. A thinner version that's longer would be an interesting design though. I do like the shape, and it should be good for dispatching the chickens. And the handle could use some work. I know its an almost exact copy of the original engineer bolo. but its been a long time since Colins was making the original. the block handle feels good and provides grip. But it just rips holes in your hands during heavy chopping which is what the machete is meant for. Shame on me for not wearing gloves and protecting my hands in the first place. But I need my hands. I don't like it when they're covered in blisters.
I also own a toloaza. I highly doubt its use as a tactical blade. Its just too thick and heavy for that. And not particularly pointy. But it would make a good survival knife, its damn near indestructible, has a good length, and isnt too heavy. Ballistic nylon sheath sucks though. Molle straps came off with a light tug. Retention strap is a joke, but the actua part where you put the knife is is nice. has some retention, and feels nice to put it in and out. so the knife is good, sheath is sub par though. Overall I really like condor though. I also like the price point. I can do just about anything with the knowlegde I can replace it. But I like them too much to intentionally abuse them. Also 42blades got my bolo to me quicker than expected with a incredibly sharp edge. Special grade is a thing of beauty.
