I was wondering if you could help me with a few knives. I'm looking at wanting at trying several different knife styles to see what style I like the most. I'm into bushcrafting/camping/food prep ect... I currently have the condor bushlore. I'm looking at trying the following condor's because the price is fairly reasonable. The sapien, tavian, and nessmuk. Can you offer any insight in the strength's/weakness between them? mainly between the sapien and tavian.

i was also looking at the Condor Lochnessmuk and village Parang. I'm primarily thinking of using them for making kindling and maybe shavings/feather sticks as well.

The sapien and tavian seem to be pretty darn near the same knife, as such you would likely get very similar performance regardless of which you chose between the two.

Condor makes good stuff at great prices, although their quality isn't...the most consistent.

I've gotten a couple blades from them that were slightly bent to the right or left, but they still worked just fine. May need to touch it up a bit too but 1075 isn't a difficult steel to sharpen.

Welcome.

You have a Condor, so you have an idea about the quality of their products.

You are "into" bushcrafting, so you should have an idea of whether a knife design makes sense just by looking.

So pick one! (Then buy it from this guy: http://www.baryonyxknife.com/)

And at their prices you cant really go wrong, can you?

a knife design makes sense for what i'm looking for yes..... how it performs and feels in a my hand, excel at, ect... i'm not there yet.... hence why i was hoping someone who has them would be able to compare them..... provide guidance....

yes they do look very similar except when looked at closely the tavian has more of a belly than the sapien, also longer and according to info i've read a different grind so..... similar but i would also think different....

My favorite pairing from Condor for outdoors type bumming around are the 5 inch Condor Bushcraft Basic and the Condor Mini Duku Parang.....

I like the 5 inch better than the 4 inch due to handle size, not blade size....I have HUGE hands and the extra real estate on the 5 inch helps the knife not cause cramps in my meaty fists during prolonged use...

And as far as the Parang.... Let me preface by saying I own ....sadly, literally every large blade Condor makes.....ALL of em.... and the Mini Duku Parang is the only one that's seen the sun since the day I got it....its just a vastly superior design to all their other offerings IMHO....it can do everything the others can do, and do it better....however, I will also point out that the Moonshiner is my second favorite large knife by Condor and IMHO is a VASTLY under rated blade.....its not quite as " do it all " as the Mini Duku....but its a good 80%

so in your opinion the mini duku is better at batoning than the village or others? like i mentioned for the large blade i'm looking at its as primarily batoning to make kindling and possibly tinder for the fireplace.

Any of em will baton... its the everything else that goes along with it that the Mini Duku does better....I've batoned my Mini Duku thru logs bigger around than my leg....and brother I'm 6'2 375....I got me some meaty legs...

but actual chopping, feather sticks, notching, much of anything else...yes, I prefer the Mini Duku to the village parang, engi bolo, solo bolo, etc etc etc......with the Moonshiner being a close second

just my 0.02, YMMV

I also have several Condor knives and the one I seem to grab when I go woods bumming is always the Kephart. I pair it with a small axe or hatchet and a two bladed slip joint and there isn't much I can't do. I can get a scalpel sharp edge on my Kephart, and it holds it well. It makes good sparks on a ferro rod, and I can even baton small pieces of wood with it in a pinch. It also slices and carves very well. I did however, strip the coating off of it. It's light to carry, has a nice leather sheath, and is very comfortable in hand. Not saying you have to have one, but it would certainly be worth a look.
