Condor Parang Proto Passaround-closed

I WOULD say that I'm in, but I know I'm just going to buy one anyhow so I'll let someone else take that slot. :D

Same here. I'm buying one of those. Nice of you to do the pass around though Joe... Is there a time-line as to when these will be for sale?

updated! One last spot. If i missed you, let me know.

Joe

Hey joe, is that the order they will be sent out in? I remember writing in my email to be at the bottom of the list (like 7th), I wanna test that baby in warm weather :D

update. Getting ready to ship out soon.

Update, Ive had the Parang for awhile now and have been trying to reach Joe about where to send it next. Joe if you see this before the email or PM please send me the address of where to send it.

I got the Condor Parang prototype today. It needs a slight touch up on the edge, but I'll have some action shots of it up soon!

Looking good. That handle looks a bit above and beyond what I expected from that middle pic. Actually quite pretty.

After touching up the edge, I took the Condor Parang out back for a little workout. I brought my Condor Golok along for a comparison. The main difference is the length. The longer 17.5" blade of the Parang gives it more reach and an advantage in slashing brush. Both weigh about 21 oz, but the stouter feeling golok has a 14.5" blade. Mine is an early golok from last year's Blade Show. The handle is a little blocky, but I thought it was fine until I held the Parang. I love the feel of the handle on the parang. Both have a distal taper from 1/4" at the handle to about 1/8" thick at the tip.

These fibrous, tough, woody live oak suckers are always a challenge for any machete. The parang cut these well as long as I hit them at an angle and not straight on.

On the less tough Wax Myrtles, the parang did a fine job of trimming them up, even hitting them straight on like trimming a hedge.

More to come.

My favorite knife for trimming my Wax Myrtles back has been my Bark River Golok, but the added reach of the Condor Parang is appreciated here.

There, that's better. With a good edge, the parang is a great hedge trimmer!
With 17.5" of blade, you can get some speed on it. That helps in chopping, too. It only took six chops to go through this hard dry wood.

This handle is really comfortable to chop with.

The parang easily slashed through tough palmetto stalks, and even slashed standing palmetto leaves clean. You need a good edge to do that.

In summary, this parang is every bit as impressive as the Condor Golok. It just depends on how long a blade you want to carry. Both can slash and chop as well as more expensive models. I like this Parang from Condor.

Do you have any photos of your testing Bro???

How did you like it..???

Boy that looks tempting! If I get one, I think I'll get it rehandled up to the sharpened edge making it a hand-and-half or two handed:D

ROCK6

The Parang goes out to Chapman today. Careful, it's very sharp now. :D I kept it until after Blade. While I had the time, I put a new edge on it.

I can't find them

The Parang arrived today. Wow. My wife met the postal worker at the door and then walked in the gigantic triangle tube mailer and said, "What is this?" :)

I have not had the chance to handle a Condor or any other Parang. This thing has a seriously thick handle. It flairs like the bottom of a large ax handle at the butt. The Parang seems to have traveled pretty well but the tip rolled. The edge is really nice, so thank you Horn Dog. Did you hand sharpen on a mousepad and sand paper?

I wish it had not come for another week. I'm doing three days on the Appallcian Trail and would have taken it along. Oh well.

Thanks for the chance to check out this Condor Parang Proto!

The tip rolled? Man, I had that blade well packed with taped up heavy cardboard. Never under estimate USPS. I used my Kalamazoo Belt sander and finished the edge with a 9 micron belt.
