i was thinking it was a scandi grind

It's a full convex-which feels similar in many aspects to a good scandi grind, and if you felt so inclined with a little work could easily reprofile the edge to that of a scandi grind. As beefy as a knife it is, it offers great control. I wouldn't feel overly bulky for tasks like skinning small animals or filleting fish. I guess that makes it a great blade for a daypack or minimalist kit.
