A while back I bought a copy of the Confederate Bowie knife book which got me in the mood to make something with a D-guard. For this one however, rather than trying to exactly copy one of the old knives I decided to simply give it the feel of a Confederate Bowie with a few modern twists like using damascus and a threaded pommel nut.

The blade steel (as well as the guard) was an experiment in having a damascus center & solid steel around it.

Let me know what you think.

Man, you pulled that 'experiment' off like a champ!!!! Great job my friend.... :)

Gary, I really like your "experimental" steel. It will bare repeating several times in the near future.

Man, if that's how your experiments turn out you should do it a lot more often. This one was a complete success! I like the way that blade came out with the damascus center, it makes everything around the edge look sharp.

Thank you everyone. I'm glad that you liked it. This steel pattern is a little extra work but I think that it was worth it.

That steel really floats my boat. As impressive as it is on the blade, it really makes for a striking guard. Well done sir.

At first... it looks a bit weird.

But the more I look at the pic, the more I like it.

Nice Bowie!

Kind regards,

Jos
