Confession of a Spydernut: ZT561 First impression and question

Just have to chime in here to say that after months of ownership and thousands of flicks, my 0560 is still impossible to open with the studs. I have several 055X's, so I know how to use them without putting pressure on the lockbar, but even full force with both thumbs will not break the detent on the 0560. No real complaints here, as it was intended to be opened with the flipper, but I just thought I would let you know that it may not get any easier. I have won several $5 bets against people who think they can open it with the studs. I haven't found a single person who can do it yet! :p

I'll take you up on that bet, and raise it to $20. :D

To help me figure out why mine is impossible, I have to ask a question to the other 0560 owners around here. Does the lock bar on yours sit noticeably lower than the rest of the Ti side when the blade is closed? Mine definitely does, and I think it is probably the reason mine will not open with the studs.

Mine sinks in all the way as well, even after I had the Ti side replaced. When it was new, it had that snap upon detent release, but again, as a lefty, I had neither clip nor finger on the lock bar. I'm getting another 0560, it should arrive today, so I'll check that out. ;)

I think the detent was made stronger than normal to make sure that big slab of Elmax has enough force to fully deploy with the flipper.

0561 Serial # 1654 easy as pie to open either way. My 8 yr old can open it via thumbies! It has pretty week detent.
Mine also sits lower. Have you taken it apart and pushed the lock bar out to try and ease it up a bit? You probably would have to remove the stabilizer to do so also. I think that would help immensley in your case. I might do opposite of that for mine.

I agree, thats why I have to get my deployment just right.

serial1327 the lockbar sits just a little lower when closed, its flush when on the detent. I remember when it was new I could push the lockbar into the detent a little bit, but now after lost of use it no longer does that.

my 2 cents....from a modders perspective:

I have worked on many 0560's....some of the early production ones have a larger cut on the lockbar, and do sit a hair lower than later production ones. Another thing I noticed is that if you look at the steel liner from the inside when open you will see that the g10 actually rises above the liner a bit where the choil is. When i mod, or make new scales I match the cutout of the frame and gain a little extra space which makes a big difference in the ability to open with studs. You can simply sand, file, or use a dremel to do this to yours and it will make a difference...

That being said, it is definately a better flipper, and I prefer the flipper to the studs.

Thank you for advise.
I agree, it is definitely flipper and this is primary reason why I bought this knife and I love it.

My 0560 has useable thumbstuds...

First person I've ever heard say that the 56x is heavy. To me, it is ridiculously light and I'd prefer a little more weight.
