Confidence/Safety Line or Why We Need Real Rope in the Out of Doors....

I hope everyone is still tuned in...

Because I have this question for the contributors...

Is a length of tubular webbing just as good? Because the original reference I am working from states that they used that, not rope.

I would say yes.. as long as your confident in its tensile strenght. My brother got a section of flat nylon web about 3/8 wide that the power company uses to drag cable thru underground tubes. It was rated to 9000 lbs breaking strenght and no heavier that a similar section of rope. It was smaller to pack too, 25 yards rolled up to a baseball sized roll. you could just hold the outer end and chunk the rest like a baseball and it unrolled good, didnt kink up. only issue was if you tied a knot that was pulled tight it was hard as heck to unknot.

Hi, jw2n.
Sounds like you had a good time here.
Honestly I've moved to here just this March, quite new to this area.
Riding road racing bike every weekend these days to be prepared for winter mountaineering.
Before that I was in Kyoto.

Tubular webbing is good for preparing anchor as Bushman5 said in the 5th post.
In my opinion, it cannot replace proper rope of kernmantle construction.
One of the reason is, such rope has much more choice in
securing a person's life like using a blocker or pulleys.
