Confirming Sharpness

I don't really come by phone book paper too often these days with cell phones and all, but I have used thermal receipt paper that retail stores print receipts on and I find that if the blade is not very well sharpened, it will not slice through very smooth if at all.

I take em out the many hotels I stay in throughout the year, pretty much every hotel has stacks of em.
 
Whatever scrap paper I have handy, although I've never been comfortable with purloined hotel phone books or Gideon Bibles.
